Destroying the Portal

I don't know what happened to him during our fight, when I was dead, or while he was frozen, but he had changed. He used to cringe at the mention of light or shadow. (Yes you did. Just because you didn't know you did it doesn't mean you didn't. Just shut up.) He seemed eager for us to both use ours. (You could have just left, did you really need to announce you were going to the bathroom?) Ugh, he is so annoying, anyway, it was kind of nice to not always have him worrying about getting in trouble, it made me think he wasn't but so much of a wimp. Still I wanted to know how he knew combining our light and shadow powers would close the portal, but he seemed completely sure. I led him to the clearing, and was relieved to see that the portal hadn't grown back to it's normal size, it was still small, hopefully, too small for any demon to come out.

"How are we supposed to do this again?"

"Summon a large ball of shadow energy, right in front of us. I will do the same, but with light magic, we merge them together, that should generate enough power to counteract the power of the portal."

"Two things. One: it should generate enough power?"

"It will, probably, Ninety-Seven percent sure."

"The other three percent?"

"More demons come out. Was that your other question?"

"No. My other question was how do you know this?"

"Serena, I already told you, I'm not exactly sure."

"Thanks, that's very reassuring." I knew he was lying but we had bigger problems.

"Serena, I don't know exactly how I know, but I know that this will work." He grabbed my hand and held it up. "We can do this. I know it."

"Okay." I concentrated on focusing my shadow magic into a small, controlled orb. And it started to form in front of me. "Big enough?"

"No, it needs to be about the size of a basketball, that is a softball."

"Stop using sports references!"

"Fine, no it's not big enough." I added more power to it.

"Now?"

"A little more." I imagined a basketball, but I had never been big into sports. "Perfect! Stop." I gritted my teeth, but I couldn't stop the power, it was just flowing out of me.

"I can't!" Aeolus flung his hand out and an orb of light, the same size as mine. But mine just kept growing. He tried to match the size, but it was growing too fast. "We have to send it out!"

"We have to merge it first!"

"WELL HURRY UP!" (Oh, welcome back. Yes, I just got to that part. Sit down and be quiet.) He moved his orb inside of mine, it turned grey, with flecks of color inside. Together we drew our arms back, the orb following our movement. We flung our arms back out at the same time, the orb slamming into the portal. The sky flashed from day to night and back again twice, and then it settled back into the early afternoon. The portal imploded with a flash of colorful light.

"It worked-"

"I told you it would."

"Do you think that was the only one?"

"Portal, No. Demon to come out of it, No."

"Wonderful, how many do you think there are?"

"A lot."

"Thanks professor genius."

"No problem." It was weird seeing him more playful and joking than usual. And sarcasm? He really had changed (Yes you were that boring. Well you are still a little bit. I'm probably the only not boring person I know. Whatever, shut up)

"Should we tell the elders about the portal?" I asked him. Yeah I know, me wanting to talk to the elders, weird right?

"No." he answered immediately "The elders-" he trailed off "Just no, we aren't going to tell them." Had he seen something while he was frozen? Is that how he knew about how to stop the portal? If so, what else had he seen? (Well yeah, I know now, but I am trying to keep it suspenseful for the people reading or listening.) I'm sorry about him. Anyways, I was curious about what else he had learned.
