Passing Ships

I kept my eyes fixed on the floor not wanting to glance up at him. My heart couldn't handle it. I'm here for him, but it doesn't mean I'm able to watch this.

I felt Chris' hand on my thigh and I looked up slightly, he mouthed "Are you okay?"

I gave a small smile and nodded.

I looked back down avoiding looking ahead, I couldn't look at him I just couldn't.

I couldn't stop replaying the moments in my head that I could have stopped this moment.

"Y/N!"

I opened my eyes finding myself on my couch with my glasses half down my face and a book ontop of me.

"I'm letting myself in! Cover yourself up!"

I rolled my eyes at the sound of Sebastian's voice and sat up and ran a hand through my knotted hair yawning.

Sebastian emerged through my front door and smiled "Where you purposely ignoring me?"

I adjusted my glasses "Me? Never, anyway I told you to only use that key in emergencies,"

He shrugged sitting next to me "Well you might have been, could have been held at gunpoint you might have been had a one night stand and you want me to pretend to be the angry boyfriend to whoop his ass,"

I laughed "Not exactly my style Seb,"

He moved his hair out of his face "Well you might surprise us one day and I want to be prepared for all occasions,"

I smiled "You take your best friend duties so seriously,"

"Indeed I do ma'am which is why we are taking you out on the town this evening, you missy have been single for as long as I've known you we need to get you a man, or woman if you swing that way,"

I shook my head "No I have work I can't,"

Sebastian pouted "Tell them you're ill,"

"Tell that to my landlord when it's time for rent, not all of us can be superstar celebrities who earn more money a year than most of us do in a lifetime,"

He gave a dramatic sigh "Oh now I'll have to go out alone maybe this is the night I'll find a woman worthy of me,"

I swallowed the lump in my throat and rolled my eyes "You're like me Stan, you're too introverted to just approach a woman like that,"

He raised an eyebrow "Is that a challenge?"

I shook my head "No,"

He smirked "I bet you I can get a woman tonight,"

"No I don't want to feel the shame when you inevitably crash and burn,"

He laughed and took my hand and shook it "Well it's done now, anyway I'm gonna head out have fun at work,"

"Was that sarcastic?" I asked.

He jumped up heading to the door "No I know you find great joy in asking people if they want a bag I really want to amp you up for it,"

I shook my head "Get lost Stan,"

"You love me really!" He shouted as he closed the door.

I paused "...I do,"

I climbed on the footstool stacking the tins on the top shelf which I find discriminates the smaller staff and customers personally. Need to really send corporate an angry note about that.

"Y/N?"

I looked round and smiled when I saw Sebastian's friend Chris.

"Oh hi Chris, it's been a while, didn't think this store is very windswept and celebrity enough for you and Seb's friends,"

He laughed "Hey sometimes we just want to feel normal and go grocery shopping ok? How you been?"

I nodded "I'm ok yeah,"

He nodded and looked at his feet awkwardly "So are you doing anything later?" He asked.

I shrugged "Well I finish at 11pm, sleep was up there,"

"Oh ok well if you change your mind let us know,"

I nodded "Sure I will,"

He smiled and walked away and I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket and looked at the text.

Seb: Be prepared to lose the bet my friend I am about to score 😝

I felt my heart drop and I turned to Chris "Hold up Chris,"

I drew circles on the sheets keeping my eyes closed pretending I was in this situation with someone else.

After a few seconds I opened my eyes and still found myself in Chris' bedroom with his arms wrapped around me. I reached for my phone on the side table and unlocked it and opened my photos and scrolled back to a year ago to the photo I don't remember taking.

We were so drunk that night I barely remembered it but here it was me and Seb locked in a passionate make out.

I felt Chris stir behind me and I closed the photo and put my phone down.

He kissed my shoulder caressing my side "Morning,"

I turned round and smiled "Hi,"

He pecked my lips and beamed "Well you're still here the next morning that's a good sign, so I just need to know is this a one night stand situation or do you want to go out or what?"

I paused "Well I've never done a one night stand before so I guess the second one,"

He smiled "How bout we start with me making you breakfast or do you want to go another round?" He asked trailing kisses down my neck.

I sighed "I suppose we could try again,"

He grinned as I pulled him down for a deep kiss that crushed out the thoughts spiralling through my head.

"Wow so, you and Chris eh?" Sebastian murmured into his mug.

I nodded avoiding his gaze and focusing on the cafe ambience "You and...the girl who's name I've already forgotten,"

He nudged me playfully making me smile "You know damm what her name is,"

There was a pause and I traced my nail around the edge of my cup.

"So you planning to see Chris again?" He asked.

I looked up at him feeling his eyes bore into me "Um yeah we said we'd give it a go, how about you and one night stand?"

He paused for what felt like forever "I um, yeah I was gonna call her later actually,"

I nodded "Happy for you Stan,"

He gave a half smile "Ditto,"

I snapped to attention at the sound of the music and the crowd rising and I finally looked up at him.

Sebastian's gaze was fixed on me and his face wasn't showing any emotion and I couldn't decode what he was possibly thinking.

Eventually his eyes drifted to my left and I saw the white silhouette pass me and I felt a pressure inside my chest.

I felt a tear fall down my cheek and Chris passed me a tissue and I nodded a thank you. He kissed the top of my head and grazed his hand over my stomach, drawing circles over my bump.

What he didn't realise was that was my heart was breaking there and then.
