Harry POV:
When I returned back to the car I got a phone call, a big surprise I know. It was a reminder, one I tried hard to avoid since we kissed the first time and the reminder made me angry. It was clear what I should have done and even before she entered the car I was convinced I was going to do so, but then I thought of her. . . in the car, while I laid in bed, while I completed drops, she was all I could think about.
I tried everything I could think of to stop thinking about her. The softness of her skin, the glow of her brown complexion, the smile of hers that seemed to brighten up any room she entered in. I wasn't only affected by the way she looked but by the way she acted around the people I loved most.
It didn't go over my head the way she is with Maya or Gracie or Liam. In the short time that we've known her, I can see the love pouring out of her and watching her protect Maya from the first day to when she gave birth to Harlow just further solidified why I get butterflies around her. But it also solidifies all the reasons I should stay away from her.
And what she did for Sophie. I didn't think people like her existed in this fucked up world, but boy was I wrong. She needs to be protected at all costs and I will do anything to make sure she is, but what if I'm who she needs protecting from.
So tonight I found myself waiting outside of Nympho toward the end of her shift waiting to offer her a ride home as I have ever since that fucking night. But when she walked out I didn't move. I just watched her walk away out of sight but never out of mind.
Every bone in my body itched to go after her and kiss her silly, but I couldn't stop myself from thinking about the dangers that came along with me.
So instead I drank. I walked into Nympho, kicked everyone out and drank. More than I should have that's for sure, but it didn't stop me from continuing while I waged a war within myself, forming excuses and arguments as to why I should and shouldn't leave Haven alone.
I drank until I was too pissed to remember what got me drinking in the first place. So I did what anybody would do. I walked it off.
At first, I didn't notice the rain, only felt droplets of something cooling off my burning body. But while I walked I found myself moving towards her home. Throughout anything, she's like a magnet and no matter how much I want to be repelled from her I'm not. She's like a lighthouse and I have no other option but to let her guide me to wherever she is.
Eventually, I found myself leaning against her front door, soaked and cold. The alcohol somewhat leaving my system slowly but surely.
I didn't even know if she was home but when she answered, boy was I glad that she was. She didn't wear anything special, but regardless she effectively took my breath away. She is so effortlessly beautiful and it took me a couple of seconds to realize I had yet to do anything but stare at her.
Almost immediately after entering, I could tell that she was on edge and I could tell it was because of the weather. . . I just didn't know why. Something so minuscule on a scale compared to what I assume she must have gone through, from the small glimpses into her past I've been graced with. She didn't so much as cry when she got assaulted by Peter but the storm somehow has her shaking, taking deep breaths.
What aren't you telling me, baby?
What aren't I telling you? Isn't that the real question?
Despite her own internal troubles, she found it in herself to take care of me. Making me a sandwich, giving me a change of clothes, helping me into the shower.
Why are you making this so hard Sunny?
I didn't mean to catch her in the mirror. Didn't mean to invade her privacy when I know I shouldn't have, but curiosity got the best of me.
While she studied her back I took the time to study the front. I instantly recognized what those scars were from, I had one myself from a stupid mistake as a child. But with the memory, I also remembered the pain that came with them.
Did she give those to herself?
I selfishly hope that she did, because the thought of someone causing her that much pain makes me see red. I don't know what I would do if she told me someone did that to her. To think of a person burning her with a cigarette repeatedly is enough for me to track them down and kill them, regardless of how long ago it may have happened.
My eyes also soften looking at her. Even with the scars on her body, she's breathtaking, even more so because of them. It shows what she's been through, what she survived. It's a blueprint of her strength and God knows my Sunny is strong.
After getting caught due to my inability to stay vertical I walked into the kitchen, finding the sandwich she made. Such a simple action yet it holds so much meaning to me.
Soon after, she came out to meet me and in the next minutes, I tried my best to apologize for my behaviour, explaining my feelings the best I could despite having the emotional intelligence of a child.
It was in that moment before we kissed that I made up my mind. I couldn't leave her alone, I didn't want to so I wouldn't.
I've done unspeakable things in my life, always making decisions I would regret later. . .but I don't think she'll be one of them. It may be the wrong choice to stay instead of walking away before anyone got hurt, but one thing is for sure. . .she will never be a choice I regret.
In the midst of everything I can't tell she gets more fearful as the severity of the storm increases; and when the power goes out I can practically feel the anxiety and fear rolling off her.
She admitted she hated storms and I expected much, but what I didn't expect was for her to explain why. But then she did and it took everything in me from finding her father and causing him pain incomparable to the pain he caused her.
