Haven's POV:

I break every traffic law as I race to Zayn, clinging to the possibility that maybe Harry wasn't lying. I don't know what I would have done if he didn't say that, whether or not it's true decides his fate for a later time, but right now it's enough for me.

I don't even know how long it takes me to get there, the entire drive a blur of emotion threatening to explode. For the sake of every person on this planet, Harry better not be lying.

But pulling up to the back entrance of Casanova I see Liam standing there, a phone pressed to his ear, surely talking to Harry. Crafting which lies they want to tell me next, I'm sure.

The car's barely turned off before I ask, "What am I doing here Liam?" I say indifferent to someone I once viewed with such reverence, such love.

"Where's Zayn?" I tell him with a pointed stare but as his eyes land on me, he sucks in a breath. With my split lip and bruised cheek I see him asses what damage he can see, but my sunglasses hide the extent of it.

"Haven." he says sadly and shaking his head he makes a move towards me. I take a step back at his advance trying my best to keep space between us.

I want to cower under his pitiful stare but they need to know what they were apart of. What they played into. So, lifting my sunglasses onto the top of my head, my face lays bare in all its bruised glory.

He chokes back words, unable to speak past the ball in his throat.

"Haven, listen we can explain." he puts his hands up in defence but I'm entirely fed up with answering other people's questions before my own.

"I don't give a fuck." I say and that shuts him up, surely not expecting this reaction considering I've never had to be like this towards any of them, never thought I would have to.

"I don't have time to listen to your excuses, bring me to Zayn." I demand and nodding, he wordlessly guides me down to a part of the building I'd never been to, let alone even knew existed.

I am well aware that this is an insanely stupid decision given my recent findings and that Zayn could full well be dead with me soon to join him, but truth be told, I just don't care.

My heart beats wildly the closer I get to finding out this truth. I've been made to be the fool so many times and if this time ends the same then I hope it also ends me for good.

But as Liam and I wordlessly make our way to the metal door just ahead I simply don't know. This could end either way and for me the literal personification of a life and death situation.

2 pathways lay before me. Both wholely uncertain and yet each a reprieve in their own right.

Unlocking the door, Liam reaches for the handle. "Wait." I tell him, needing a moment to gather myself.

"He's ok. I promise you." Liam says and I scoff. "Forgive me if you're word means jack shit to me." I respond.

I don't know who I can trust anymore.

"Ok I'm ready."I tell him and turning the handle, he opens the door to reveal a beautiful, smiling, and most importantly alive Zayn.

I do a quick scan and sitting in a hospital bed, with bandages all over him, he clearly isn't back to normal but from the looks of it, he's been well taken care of.

Shocked beyond words, I stand there gaping at a ghost — and then I cry.

Tears streaming down my face, I take a deep breath and for the first time since this mess began to unravel, I feel like I can breathe.
