The Fire Within

Chapter 3

  Wolfpaw hurried to the cave. Her mother smiled as she entered. "Are we ready to go yet?" Wolfpaw asked, impatient to leave. "Almost." She turned her head to her friends, "Scratch, thank you so much for teaching my children and helping them grow." She licked his shoulder, then turned to Blue and Jack. "Jack, you were always ready to put others before yourself, thank you. Blue, I only know you a little, but you have a kind heart. I hope you two have beautiful kits." She pushed her fur against then and turned to leave. "Good luck!" Blue called.

"Scratch said to follow the directions form cats around here." Windpaw said, looking up at the kittypet.  She looked down surprised. "You know Scratch?" She asked, then smiled sweetly, "That changes everything!" She pointed her tail towards a pale house, "Follow the black path till you get to a tree line. The very last house has a cat that can lead you through the forest, but it's really, really far to where you want to go." She sighed, "The cat has a blue collar, and is called Socks. Good luck"                                        Wolfpaw thanked the cat kindly, and started to lead the group again. Scarlet trotted up beside her.  "We've been walking all day, mabye we should rest?" Wolfpaw shook her head in reply. She know her mother was only trying to be a mother, but we couldn't have her asking ever few minutes to rest. If she needed to they would happily stop, but not only were they in unfamiliar territory, but twoleg territory.

Wolfpaw jumped up on a stinky metal structure and scouted the monster path. The roar of a monster sounded, but it pulled off the path to a home nearby. Hopefully you stay right there She thought. "We aren't far from the trees, we just need to go down the hard path beside the monster's." She finally called down. She landed beside Windpaw, who stood respectively as she took lead of group again.  Wolfpaw lead them forward, and around a corner, so the trees were visible. "There's the forest, so we just need to find our guide?" Stonepaw asked.  "I think we can make it without him." Rockpaw (pic) mumbled, making Stonepaw roll his eyes at his brother. They all trotted carefully down the path alert for any monsters. When they got to the last house, the thunderpath split in two, each going different ways, one blocking the group. Wolfpaw looked at the trees, then the house to her left. Here goes nothing... Wolfpaw yowled, and noises came from the house. The door swung open, and her family scattered into the bushes. A twoleg stepped out and looked around. Something ran past it's legs and it jumped, then started yelling. Wolfpaw leaned forward to see, then suddenly a cat stood in front of her. "Quick! Run as fast as you can to the trees!" He barked before running that way himself. The Male Twoleg spotted him, and called out again. We need to go while it's distracted she realized. She turned to the patrol, but they were already to go. 

Just one nod, and they ran.

"Clans? You mean that big group of cats about so far away from here?" Socks asked. Socks was a strange cat. Small and pudgy, with a black back and white "Socks".  Stonepaw moaned "Yes, For the millionth moon!!"  Who know such a small cat had so many questions! Wolfpaw pushed herself forward till she faced Socks, "We need you to take us to the Clans. Please."  Socks shook his head, "It's nights away, took me seven days last time. It's hard to find shelter and i almost got lost!"   Rockpaw looked up from his prey, "What do you mean?"  Socks looked surprised. "I took some cats to a lake nearby." Rockpaw gave him a look, so Socks added quickly, "They wanted to miss the cats there completely! It was a bet."  Rockpaw looked away, and Socks relaxed. "What kind of cats were you travaling with?" Windpaw asked from behind Wolfpaw.  "Umm, two upwalker cats and three stray, why?"  Wolfpaw realized what Windpaw wanted, "To go, would it be quicker to walk all day, without rest."  Wolfpaw know this was asking a lot. Scarlet had been traveling for moons, they all had. But they were so close.

Socks looked startled. He thought it through, then answered, "We stoped several times... maybe." 

"Alright then." Wolfpaw gathered her team, "Everyday, we walk normal, together. But at sun high, Socks, Stonepaw and I will run ahead to grab some prey. The rest will catch up later on, then we share prey. Then we continue till Sun down. The next day, switch people: Rockpaw, Socks and Windpaw." Scarlet stayed silent, as if she didn't need to ask.

"It has it's flaws, but it could work." Windpaw agreed. Rock and Stone nodded. Wolfpaw smiled at them, "Lets do this!"
