The Fire Within

Chapter 7

Shout out to Nixy and Madison

"Rockpaw!! Rockpaw and Dovepaw are missing!!" Nightingale looked at Flamekit in annoyance.

"We know that! Can you please go back to the nursery."

Wolfpaw shifted nervously from paw to paw. Dovepaw had disappeared after yesterday's training. A patrol had followed the scent, but it had twisted and turned, even harder to follow when a light shower came down. They still hadn't found them. The whole clan was worried.

There was talk of capture and killing. But Wolfpaw know way Dovepaw left. She know Wolfpaw and her brothers were worried, so she went to find Rockpaw. Alone.
Now we have two cats to find.

"Wolfpaw, do you have any idea where Dovepaw could've gone?" Nightingale asked her, and she shook her head. Disappointed, He turned to the other cats, "Ok, so we'll send two patrols-" but Wolfpaw wasn't listening. She was trying to figure out where the would go. Rockpaw likes dark spaces, hidden tunnels, space... He could have gone anywhere!

"A no one is aloud to go out alone." She shook her head and tried to pay attention. But the deputy was finished talking and was rounding the patrols up.

She wasn't on one. That doesn't mean she had to wait. She waited till the eyes were off her, then scrambled out of the camp. She smiled and glanced back... till she ran into a cat. She backed and looked up. "What are you doing?" The gray cat in front of her was around her age. Another apprentice!

"Nothing." She said quickly. She tried to go around him, but he put a paw out to stop her. "You're trying to sneak out, aren't you." He narrowed his eyes.

"I-I need to catch up to the patrol!"

"They haven't left yet."
I'm running put of excuses!

"Listen, I want to find my brother and-"

"I know." He interrupted, "that's why I'm coming with you. We aren't aloud out alone, remember?"

She had to take him. At least if she got found, she wouldn't be blamed for going alone. "Alright. Let's head to the boundaries first." He nodded and the ran off.

"Name's Stormpaw."

"Wolfpaw." She side stepped a tree.

"You're one of the new cats?"

"Yea, hopefully I can be a new fire clan cat."

"I hope so too. But some cats aren't the trusting type. Adderstep and ForestTail don't like the looks of you."                                                                                                                                                                             "Really? I haven't noticed."

Wolfpaw glanced over at a cat sitting solo. He'd been inspecting her for some time now. She didn't like his glares. 

He slowly got up and trotted over.

Oh no.

The cat towered over her, "I see Ashstar is letting you stay." His voice was like a hiss now. "But i think you look like trouble. Just remember... I'll be watching." Wolfpaw growled at the large tom, alerting Stonepaw. He qickly stepped infront of her for protection. The cat snickered, "You little ones are so cute when you are mad." He turned and walked away from the two.

"Here we are." Stormpaw slowed to a stop. The area smelled different. Scents were jumbled and mixed. Stormpaw smelled it to.

"Someone hasn't marked yet! Mistclan must think we're weak! I'll be right back." He horried away.

After Stormpaw disappeared, Wolfpaw realized how tired she was. Might as well wait. I don't know the boundaries yet.

She walked over to a stump. The bush beside it moved.

She jumped away and hissed "Who are you!!"

A sleek cat appeared. She was tall, and looked as slippery as a fish, all that water. She looked at Wolfpaw in surprise. "I-I'm Shadowclaw... Shadowclaw of Mistclan. I just wanted to check out..." She continued to stare.

Wolfpaw sighed, not wanting to fight the curious cat, "You shouldn't have crossed the border."

"I daw your eyes... Your eyes are pretty, but scary blue. I thought it might be one of the wolves the elders talk about."
Wolves? Here? Scarlet never said anything about that.

Wolfpaw notice Shadowclaw wasn't on her side. If a patrol would come to see her and an enemy clan together...

"Maybe you should talk on your border side. I don't want to get in trouble for not forcing you off."

Shadowclaw quickly stepped to her side. "Sorry." She mumbled.

"It's ok." Wolfpaw found herself say, "How's prey running?"

"Fine." She licked her paw quitely, "I'm not the best."

Wolfpaw had an idea.

"Any loners seen?" She asked hopefully.
Please. Please. Please-

The cat shook her head, "No... Not for a while."

Disappointment flooded wolfpaw, "Someone is missing from Fireclan. I'm trying to find her. That's why I was so close to the border."

"Who's missing?"

"A friend." Wolfpaw replied.

"I'll keep my eyes open. My starclan be with her."

"You as well." She stared into the cat's eyes. For the first time, she had made herself a friend. On purpose. This cat understood her loss, somehow. The cat nodded her head, "What's your name?"

"Wolfpaw"

"Well wolfpaw, good luck." The cat turned and disappeared into the rising mist.
