"Birthdays are nature's way of telling us to eat more cake."

WolfClaw could feel all eyes on her the rest of the day. The cat from the border had left in a fury, but she would be coming back to get Scarlet. 

Of course it was fun to have Scarlet back.

Her mother was WolfClaw's highlight of the day. Scarlet helped her while she went off to hunt. Even with three legs now, she still got a mouse. She helped her gather the apprentices and she gave them and WolfClaw a story time to remember! She even made AdderStep smile.

But WolfClaw couldn't shake off the sad feeling that she felt.

"What are your plans now?" 

RussetClove's words haunted her thoughts. He know, like everyone else in camp, that when Scarlet came home, it would mean that they would lea

came home,they would too. WolfClaw had promised her brothers that.

"WolfClaw!" StormCloud called from the fresh kill-pile. WolfClaw felt her stomach rumble and smiled.

"Coming."

"So, that's the infamous Petalpaw." StormCloud said, watching WolfClaw's mother across the camp play with Patchpaw.

"Yeah. Isn't she great?"

"I'm happy I finally get to meet her. Hope she doesn't scorch from all this heat."

They laughed.

Stormcloud smiled at WolfClaw, "So what now?"

"What are your plans now?" 

WolfClaw shuddered as RussetClove's words swept through her mind.

"I-I don't..." WolfClaw's heart raced. What could she say? That she was leaving hi- Fireclan. That everything they've done for her was just a waste! That she would leave and forget them all?!

"WolfClaw? Are you ok?" StormCloud said. He stood up.

"Yes." She tried to lie, but she couldn't stand it.

"What am I going to do?! I don't want to leave everyone! But she's my mother!"

StormCloud sat down close to her, "What are you doing WolfClaw? Fireclan is where you learned and grew. And she's your mother. If you want to stay, she will understand. If you want to leave, we will understand. You won't hurt anyone by leaving."

When she looked at his eyes, she know he wasn't telling the truth. But she wasn't either, she realized. She thought that she had to go, when the whole time no one had told her she had to. It was her choice, and she hadn't made her mind up yet.

Wolfclaw know StormCloud didn't want her to leave, but this was her choice. He wouldn't get in the way of what she did. This was her choice.

She known what her heart wanted now. She knew what she wanted. No one was going to change her mind. Even if she had to hurt the hearts of the ones she loved the most, she had to do it. This was her choice.
