"YEAH!!" WolfClaw cried, splashing StormCloud. He laughed and sprayed water back. Petalpaw screamed with joy and tackled him.
"This was my best idea yet." She giggled and stepped over the breathless and soaked StormCloud. WolfClaw laughed and sidestepped to avoid the apprentice as she charged through the water towards her next victim, Leafpaw. StormCloud shook off some water from his grey coat.
"I bet she drives AdderStep crazy!"
"Totally." WolfClaw gazed around the area. Cats were splashing around in the water, and some were even swimming into the deeper parts of the pond. The cats who didn't really care for getting wet stood watch on the stones and sand beach. But even they had stepped into the water to cool off.
"Hey, do you want to dry off?" StormCloud spoke, glancing up at the sun,"It's almost time for the next group to come out and switch with us."
WolfClaw nodded, "Sure."
They walked to the shore side by side. But StormCloud's ears perked up when they got to the shore.
"Did you hear something?"
WolfClaw listened closely and scanned the shore line, "No. Why?"
"I don't know. It was probably nothing-" StormCloud glanced around in alarm,"There it is again! What is that sound?!"
WolfClaw watched him stalk the beach. After walking two fox lengths, he turned around, shaking his head.
"I don't understand it! I know that sound."
WolfClaw tried to listen again, but all she heard was the giggles of apprentices and water splashing.
She shook her head,"Maybe you should just-"
StormCloud suddenly shouted and sprung past her. She heard hisses and turned fast to face the danger that lay behind her.
But already, the snake lay dead under StormCloud's claws.
"Are you ok." He asked.
"Y-Yeah. Thanks."
StormCloud quietly spoke with Owlsong, who had come running when she heard the shout.
WolfClaw stared at the snake. Ever so slowly, she lowered her nose to it. She could the scent and jerked her away. StormCloud noticed and saw the fear in her eyes.
"What is? What's wrong."
"It's... nothing." WolfClaw replied.
But she could have sworn she smelled HailStream.
