The Fire Within

Chapter 10

Stormpaw healed slowly. Like Stonepaw, Wolfpaw stayed close and helped him out. Two days later he was hunting with Wolfpaw.

"Great catch!" Wolfpaw said as she pulled her catch over. "Thanks. We have enough?" Stormpaw grabbed his prey.

Wolfpaw counted.

"I think we can head back. We have plenty." She grabbed her's and they ran to camp, where Owlsong was waiting. She smiled when she spotted them. "Stay in camp. We're having a meeting."

Wolfpaw glanced at Stormpaw. He shrugged.

They walked to the fresh kill pile, then found a spot to wait.

"What do you think we will talk about?" Wolfpaw ask curiously. Stormpaw shook his head. "Who knows. Maybe they got ride of the fox." Wolfpaw glanced at Stormpaw. She could see him tense a bit, but that was all.

You're getting better.

Just then, Adderstep walked out from the leaders den. He glanced around, and when he spotted them, he hurried over. AshStar walked out as well and jumped to the rock. She called out to the clan.

As Wolfpaw and Stormpaw hurried in front of the clearing, she felt a tingle and peeked over to her right side. Foresttail was watching her, not even trying to hide it. He's going to get scolded if he doesn't stop.

"Fireclan," Ashstar began, "We stand with new to be warriors today. AdderStep, are you satisfied with Stormpaw's training?"

Stormpaw's suddenly realizes what was happening. Wolfpaw held back a laugh as he starts to twitch his tail none stop.

"I think he is ready." AdderStep says to Ashstar. She nods, then turns to Dovepaw. "I think you are ready. Mintleaf would want you to."

She looks up to the sky, "I, Ashstar, leader of Fireclan, call upon my warrior ancesters to look down on these apprentices. They have trained hard to understand the ways of your code."

She looks down at Dovepaw, "Do you promise to uphold the warrior code and defend your clan, even if it cost your life?"

"I do." Dovepaw answers.

"Then the powers by Starclan, I give you your warrior name. Dovepaw, from this moment on, you will be Dovepool. Starclan honors your Courage, we welcome you as full warrior of Fireclan." Ashstar jumps down and rests her muzzle on her head. When Dovepool licks her shoulder, Ashstar turns to Stormpaw.

"Do you promise to uphold the warrior code and defend your clan, even if it cost your life?" Stormpaw's tail twitch again. "I do.

"Then the powers by Starclan, I give you your warrior name. Stormpaw, from this moment on, you will be Stormcloud. Starclan honors your Determination, we welcome you as full warrior of Fireclan." She repeats what she did to Dovepool.

When she stepped back, cheers ran out.

"Dovepool! StormCloud!"

StormCloud puffed his chest. Wolfpaw laughed.

"Congrats! You've become a warrior." Adderstep comments to his apprentice.

"Thank you!" StormCloud says to him. Dovepool and Wolfpaw push over to him.

"Don't forget, we sit in vigil tonight." Dovepool says in excitement. StormCloud grins at them, but his eyes are on Wolfpaw.

"Can't wait for you to join us, as a warrior!"
