As I quickly wipe my face and get up, my mom doesn't say a word but her boyfriend decides to open his trap.
"Well what do we have here?" My blood boils as tears still run down my checks from me crying moments before. "None of your business. Go find your shit somewhere else Mom, I don't have anything for you..." As I start to get up and walk out, she gently grabs my hand and displays a look I haven't seen in a long time.
She gives me a soft, loving look as she nods to the door and her boyfriend exits the house with a grunt. She looks back to me and gives a small smile. "I'm not here for money, Mary. I'm here to make sure your dad is gone for good." I yank my hand back as she gives a hurt look. "Why do you care? You never did when he hurt me all those years. You never gave a shit about me, why should I believe that you do now!?" As tears stream down my face once more, she tries to hug me but I shove her away as I walk out the door and jump down from the fallen porch. Mom's boyfriend just watches me while he smokes a cigarette on the side of the porch that is still kinda sturdy.
I run back down the sidewalk, still crying unfortunately as I reach the Mayfield's. I notice Jonah still outside on the porch as he has a emotionless expression on his face. He doesn't notice me until I say his name in a annoyingly high pitched sobbing voice.
"Jonah." He suddenly looks up and gets up immediately, wrapping his arms gently around me as I sob into his chest. I loosely wrap my arms under his arms gripping his shirt like my life depends on it.
It takes me a couple minutes to calm down from my crying but eventually I calm down and pull away and wipe my nose awkwardly.
"What happened, Mary?" Jonah says, I look up at his soft green eyes, not wanting to look away or speak. I just want him to hold me in his arms but I don't want to have to repeat history. I hate when I want to be saved. It makes me so annoyed with myself but ya know what? I don't give a fuck, it's my life and I'm telling the story so I can do what ever the fuck I want...it's not like anyone's paying attention to my story anyways.
As I wrap my arms around Jonah's waist again, he looks puzzled as to why I didn't answer his question but he then realizes I don't want to talk about it and just puts his arms around me and strokes the back of my head. I release a soft breath as I smell his cologne faintly. He smells of nature. I smile at the scent.
I close my eyes and wrap my arms a little tighter around his waist as he does the same.
I sigh, "Jonah?" He mumbles a "Hm" as I smile a little at what I'm about to say. It's gonna sound so cheesy and stupid but I want him to know. "You're my favorite Mayfield." I hear him chuckle as I smile. "And you're my favorite Andersen." He kisses the top of my head as he keeps holding me.
As the night drags on, we had went inside moments after our hug. He had went up to his room but I stayed downstairs, hanging out with Andi and Amber, along with Lizzy too as the other boys had went outside on the porch to absorb the moonlight.
It was very pretty outside that night, as it was many other nights that came after that. We thought we had all the time in the world to do whatever we wanted but we were sadly mistaken when Jack showed up, banging on the Mayfield's front door, distraught and breathing heavily with sweat making his hair extremely damp.
We stood there, dumbfounded as he rushed into the house, speaking nonsense half the time before Jake spoke, "Jack, what's wrong?" Jack speaks quickly and with wide, frightened eyes. I've never seen him like this before, usually, he is really calm about every situation.
"Lewis, he's coming. We gotta go, now. You boys need to train first since Mary and Amber haven't gotten their powers yet." As we all still stand there, in shock, Luke speaks next. "Well, why does it matter if Lewis is coming?"
Jack turns and looks at Luke as he speaks, "Because, he's coming to take you guys away so we need to go, I'll look after the girls." Jack nudges them towards the door but Jonah swiftly slides away so he's not getting shoved out the door, "I swear to God, Jack if you don't keep them safe, I will kick you're ass, I don't give a damn if your my father or not. If they get hurt because you didn't watch them I will personally shove my foot up your feathery little ass." As Jack gives Jonah a glare, Jonah matches his energy right back. They all walk out the door but not without them coming right back in and hugging us tightly before walking out together.
As they close the door, me, Andi, Amber, and Lizzy stand there, in shock wondering what the hell just happened.
