The griffin landed with a thud on the white sand beach, giving us all a jolt forward. I climbed off after the youngest Pevensie and began to inspect my surroundings.
Bats in the distance danced in front of the full moon, it's light bathing them and the water in one long strip. A light breeze rustled the trees, which was all that could be seen for miles along the beach.
"I don't see anyone." Lucy glanced around, shuddering lightly.
"This is the back side of the island." Caspian replied. "They'll be around the left side. That's where their treasure is."
"How do you know so much about them and this island?" I asked as I hurried after him, tugging Lucy along.
"During my...time apart from you all I did a bit of sailing. My crew and I had an unpleasant run in with these particular pirates. Black Beard stole just about everything of value I had acquired-"
"Wait! Black Beard?" I asked, bewildered. "I- I've read about him. I didn't know he was actually real."
"Indeed he is." Caspian nodded. "We followed them here and found out they didn't need our things at all. They just happened to spot us and we looked to be an easy target, I suppose."
"What were they after here then?" Lucy frowned. "And why didn't they get it the first time?"
"There's a staff here. It's in Sound Bridge cave just off of the left side from here. Once someone has freed it from the rock it resides it, they will control this entire land."
"How's that possible? I mean, there is no way to control everything." I shook my head, brushing my hair back as It was blown in my face from the breeze.
"It can control everything from weather patterns to animal migration to people. When activated, it admits a type of sound wave, almost like hypnotism. Everyone will become completely helpless to it." Caspian stopped mid step to face us.
"That's exactly like hypnotism." Lucy replied with wide eyes.
"It requires a true son of Adams blood to release it from its confines. We have to get that staff before they do."
"Wait!" I jerked his arm around to face me once again. "That's why you did this? You want the staff?"
"No! I did this because once they drain your boyfriend they'll abandon his body here and control all of us. Is that what you want? If we get the staff first, we take care of all our problems." Caspian snapped, his sentence about 'draining my boyfriend' chilling me to the core.
"W-well, I don't care. I just want Peter." I began walking forward again.
"You better start caring-" Caspian started before I cut him off.
"I'm here to get Peter back. That's all. Nothing more. I won't help you with anything else. Just know that. But even if in some weird turn of events decided to help you get the staff. We need the blood of a son of Adam, and then that defeats our whole purpose."
"I'll think of something." He replied, before brushing past Lucy and I and heading down the beach.
