Chapter 27 Edmund the Hero

I slammed my open fists against the bars for the millionth time before finally dropping my head and giving up. I stared out into the darkness, aimlessly searching for someone to help me.

I could faintly hear the rushing of water, and knew it was only a matter of time before is cascaded around the corner and swept me away. I squeezed my eyes shut and let out a shaky sigh.

A few moments later I heard a sound that I never thought I would hear- someone was calling my name. "Hello?" I shrieked. "Hello! Is anyone out there?"

"Maggie!" I heard someone call back. "Maggie! Hold on, Mags!"

"Edmund?" I called back so hard I was sure I strained my vocal cords as the brown haired king appeared around the corner. "Edmund! You found me!"

He chuckled dryly in return and finally reached the cage. I watched in pure relief as he unsheathed his sword and raised it. "Step back."

"Ha ha." I mumbled, leaning as far away from him as possible.

I heard his sigh seconds before he swung it down on the lock and the door popped open. I uttered a cry and lunged out of the cage, straight into Edmunds arms. "Thank you!"

He rubbed my back for a few seconds before pulling away, but still holding me at arms length. "Yes, I got you out, but here comes the tricky part."

"That wasn't the tricky part?"

He shook his head and glanced back over his shoulder. "The water was rising extremely fast on my way in, and now we have to swim out."

I blinked at him. "Okay. I can swim."

He shook his head once again. "The entire front of the cave is under water."

"Wait, I don't think I can hold my breath for that long?" I glanced down as I felt water beginning to rush around my feet.

"Neither can I." He replied nervously, glancing down at the same thing I was.

"So, what do we do?"

He sighed and pulled me into another hug. "We pray Aslan helps us through this."
