"Watch her not even be here," I mumbled as we parked near the restaurant.

"She is," Mully said.  "I called and asked if she'd be working tonight.  The guy I spoke with said she's closing the bar.  So, you're all good."

"Goody," I said, rolling my eyes.

"Why are you so annoyed?" Tara asked.  "I thought you said you wanted to get to know her."

"I do, but you guys know I'm useless at this, right?  Even more so knowing I'm being fucking watched.  Plus, what if we're all wrong?  What if she's not interested and I'm about to make a fool of myself?  What if she has a boyfriend?"

"Well, find those things out.  But, like I said, her friend seemed upset she didn't give you her number so that tells me she's single."

"Probably not.  She seems like she's the girl who has guys lining up to date her."

"Well, get your charming Irish ass to the front of the line and make her choose you," Tara said, smiling at me before she saw my face.  "Geez, you look like you're going to puke."

"My friends are forcing me to talk to a girl I may like enough to want to go on a date with and I suck at this, and I'm nervous, and I'm scared."

I stopped walking.  Tara turned back and walked up to me, giving me a hug.  "It's okay to be scared, Niall.  We understand why.  But, do you really want to live your life too afraid to ask the girl out?"

"No, I don't," I said, softly.

"And no one is saying you have to.  Talk to her some more.  Find out some things...like if she's got a boyfriend.  Maybe her friend will be working, too?"

"Oh, so there will be another witness to mock me later on?"

"No, so that maybe she can offer up some info.  C'mon, you've got to at least try."

Tara grabbed my arm and pulled me into the restaurant, letting go and pushing me towards the bar, where I could see she was working.

"Is Tomi working tonight?" I heard Mully ask the hostess.  I turned around and looked at him, panicked.  He and Tara shooed me away.

I took a deep breath and walked over to the bar.  Sitting down, I watched her as she spoke with a customer at the other end of the bar.  Her back was to me.  I looked around to see where Tara and Mully had disappeared to.  I saw them sitting at a table, looking at the menus.

I watched her for a moment as she made a drink and I tried to calm my nerves.  'You can do this, you can talk to her.  She's just a girl; a normal, normal girl, Niall.  You can fucking talk to a normal girl!'  I took a deep breath and spoke, "Hello," I said, not entirely sure I had said it out loud until she turned around and smiled.
