Two cats cuddled and the evening wind danced
Around a bent tree swaying next to an old man's store,
I trudged up the street on my way to my new job,
Looking around and taking in the sky as far as my eyes could explore.
For the first time in years I could hear the wind again
Reminding me of my friendlessness and the island that I am
And as kids dotted the streets here and there
The sky pulled up a frown and darkened up with rain.
My playlist was on with some old sad hits,
The weather was set for me to shed a tear or two,
With no shoulder to lean on I braced myself for the pain-
And it hit me hard and acrid like a cold flying blitz.
When all the dust is settled you're left with yourself and your shadow
So I cried in the rain and tucked away my tears,
The bonds that I had made I had broken with my own hands
And I had put on a mask to dance to my adagio.
The rain kept pouring and I trudged up my way,
Love had laid down and turned her back to me,
While I looked around me and adjusted to the new fact,
I wished the earth would swallow me and finalize my vanishing act.
