The Only One

She is,
The only one who reads between my lines,
Reading my mind from behind all my words,
Sending me roving with hers as I dream—
Of what would become of us as time drives on and on.

She was,
The only one who saw through my pain,
Saw through the tears I cried into the rain,
Wrapped me in hugs I can never forget—
And became a light to my lonely silhouette.

Now she's
The only one that's more hushed than silence,
Untouched and unhurt by the pain that I swim in,
With nothing to say, I'm silently numbing
The love I once had to a hate that may be coming.
