"I told him this would happen," says Arngeir.
I sigh. "Why did I think you'd say anything other than that?"
Arngeir looks at me, his blue eyes shining. "I am sorry about this, Dragonborn. But you should know we do not meddle in the affairs of your world, as we are detached —"
"No, don't give me that bullshit, Arngeir. Ulfric trained under you for so long, and he was killed by his enemies. An arrow through his freaking throat, Arngeir! He was outnumbered greatly, and I was hiding because I knew I could not help. And he wouldn't have wanted that."
He tilts his head to the side. "What do you expect of me, Ularik?"
My eyes widen. He's never called me that before. It's always just "Dragonborn" instead. I didn't even know that he knew my name.
"I need your help, Arngeir. The Imperials killed my father, and who knows what will happen next. The war .... it will not be over. But I honestly do not know what to do."
"Perhaps you should head to your home, wherever that may be. Rest yourself, and when you feel better, your choices may be lain out before you."
"Fine," I say. "But I'm going to Whiterun. I know it's an Imperial place, but I'm not going to my house in Windhelm, as Galmar is also dead. I just don't know where I could go realistically."
"Go to where you feel safest," he says. "Sky guard you."
I nod and walk to the outside. Cold wind bites me as I walk down to where I can summon Odii. After a while, he comes and carries me to the wilderness outside of Whiterun, since the people of Skyrim are still very leery of dragons. I walk alone into the wilds outside of Whiterun, and when I finally reach the city, I draw my cloak's hood up and draw my focus to the guards, but they don't pay me any mind.
Breezehome is there, waiting for me as always. I head inside and drop my gear on the floor, and then I trudge upstairs and fall into bed. I hear Lydia, asking if I am okay, and that is when tears fall.
"What's wrong, my Thane?" she asks me.
"My father is dead."
"Oh, I'm so sorry, Ularik."
Lydia sits down on the bed beside me, and she gently rubs my back as my whole body is wracked with sobs.
