Iduru and I walk across the boardwalk, toward the Northern Maiden, the ship that will take us from Raven Rock to Windhelm, a snowy city in Skyrim. Iduru looks all around us, her red eyes wide as we board the ship. We are leaving Raven Rock for the first time, heading into Skyrim. I've heard that the Nords of Skyrim are racist, and likely to look down on my sister and I.

No matter. We've had to prove ourselves before, and so this is nothing new.

We board the ship and I sit down by the railing, looking out at the world as we wait to depart. Iduru hums softly as she paces.

We're leaving Solstheim for Skyrim, heading to Solitude or maybe Whiterun, all in an effort to get jobs. The mines were not safe in Raven Rock, and as such, we had no jobs. But now we need to move on, now we need to travel elsewhere.

This is my first time going to Skyrim. I've never been off Solstheim. I've spent my whole life here, never once been to Skyrim. I'm nervous.

When we finally reach Windhelm, it's obvious, as it gets chilly. I curl up in my cloak, trying to stay warm. Iduru sits down next to me, wrapping an arm around me and pulling me close to her. She shivers hard as a biting wind brushes against us, and then the Nords start to shout, "Here we are! The proud city of Windhelm!"

Iduru and I stand up, seeing a bunch of Argonians working on the docks, surrounded by guards. The tension in this city hits me then, and it knocks the breath from my lungs. Iduru takes my hand, and we disembark from the Northern Maiden, and start to walk through the docks, heading towards the place where the Dunmer live, the Gray Quarter.

We walk down the streets of the Gray Quarter and head for the Cornerclub, where we will spend the night before heading to another city.

We rent a room in the Dunmer inn, and Iduru and I rest up for the night.

The next day, the two of us go to the stables, and Iduru buys a horse for both of us for only five hundred gold. The horse, a gray and white mare, with long, white hair, waits as we saddle her up and put our stuff in the saddlebags.

"You ready?" Iduru asks me.

I nod. "Are you?"

She nods and mounts up, and then I climb on the horse behind her. We head off into the wilds.
