Red stares at me in horror as the blade sinks deep into my chest. I look at her, my own eyes wide, and she catches me in her arms as I sink to the ground. Even as blood pours down my body, she holds me in place.

"No, no, no...." Red says, practically chanting the words. "No! Xylene!"

"It's okay," I breathe, struggling to speak. "I ... didn't mean to do that..."

She nods, tears streaming down her brown face, her blue eyes reflecting my face with the tears pouring from them. She looks at me like she feels like it's her fault. I shake my head.

"It isn't... your fault.... Red."

"You are worried about me?" She laughs a little. "I'm worried about you!"

"I know," I say, barely breathing.

She realizes this. She looks up, screaming. "Taaren! Taaren! Someone get her, fast! She can heal her! Please! Don't let her die!"

"They're not coming," I say.

Red looks down at me. "What?"

I shake my head as blood trickles onto my lips. I close my mouth, trying to get the coppery taste of blood out of my mouth, but it doesn't work. Red tries to pick me up, but to no avail. She is shaking hard, and I know that I am dying.

"Vorstag," I breathe. "Tell him... tell him I love him."

"You can tell him yourself!" Red cries.

"No ..." I whisper, my breathing becoming more labored. She shakes her head, her eyes full of tears again.

"Taaren!" she screams.

"She's not coming." Red looks down at me. "I know this now. They wanted this to happen. I am sorry, Red, but I did this, not you. Tell Vorstag .... that I love him.  And I'm... sorry. But maybe someday, we will see ... see each other and embrace .... again."

Her eyes land on me and then, the world fades to black around me.

Inhale, exhale. Inhale, exhale. Inhale, exhale....

Then .... nothing.
