52: Emeaen Nightshade

Brynjolf has apologized countless times for us returning to Riften. But honestly, I do not care. As we reach Riften, I see Mercer stirring in his sleep, barely able to move. His eyes flick from me and Brynjolf, to his daughter, Eliana Frey.

I step closer to Eliana, and she looks at me, her eyes full of questions, no doubt wondering what a guard is doing with a thief. But that's not of her concern.

"I'm just a friend, I guess," I say. "I need to ask something. Is this person, your friend .... able to see the future or something like that?"

"And why would I tell you, a guard, that?" Eliana asks.

"Because she can be trusted," Brynjolf says. "I trust her."

"Doesn't mean I have to," Eliana says.

"Eliana, lass, please. Emeaen isn't our enemy, it's Mercer who is."

Eliana sighs. Her shoulders slump and she looks at me and shrugs. "Yes. She's able to see the future. Shes the daughter of Karliah and Gallus."

"Can I ask what her name is?" I whisper.

"You'll meet her soon enough."

We enter the back entrance to Riften and head to the Guild. When we finally get into the Guild, a female Dunmer comes over to us, she's short and her eyes are purple and her hair is dark brownish black. I see the taller version of this Dunmer approach all of us.

"It's time to answer to the Guild," says the older Dunmer.

"Karliah? What in Oblivion are you doing here?" asks Brynjolf.

"That ship has sailed, Brynjolf," Eliana says. "She didn't kill Gallus, Mercer did. He framed her for the death of Gallus."

"Here," says the younger Dunmer, as she hands Brynjolf a book. "It's Gallus's journal, we had it translated. I think you'll find its contents disturbing."

I stand off to the side as all this goes down, but then, the young Dunmer girl walks up to me. She smiles a little sadly.

"I am sorry for your losses," she says. "But I am glad you are here. I am Elmerayne. And I have much to tell you."
