Lydia leads us through the woods, taking us through the woods and through some cities and eventually, we stop for the night and make camp. The four of us sit down and Sinbil makes a fire. Ularik paces side to side, and she plays with her newly black hair. Lydia takes a swig of ale, and then she hands it to Ularik.
"My father ... I was there when he was killed," she says. "I buried his remains."
Ularik sits down beside me. I look at her, and she stares at the ground. She finally speaks again after a while.
"He is ... was .... so close to me, but in the end, it didn't matter. By the Nine, I hid while he was slaughtered by the Imperials. I'm so ashamed of it. I wish I'd have fought them. Shouted them away and run with him," she whispers.
"If you'd have done that, you likely would have died too, " Lydia says.
"You don't know that. I killed Alduin. I've faced countless dragons. Even Imperials.... I could've saved him. I know it. I should've gone and tried to save him, or died trying."
"Where would we be if we'd lost you, then?" I ask. She looks at me, startled. "The Dragonborn is Skyrim's savior. And it is not going to be good if you die. You die, and the dragons get worse. You die, and the Imperials win. You die, and who will save us?"
"What if I don't want to save all of the world? What if I just want to have a family and be happy? What if I just want to forget this Dragonborn shit and become myself again? What if I want to forget about my father's death?!"
She stands up and stalks away.
Lydia rises and follows her, and tells us to get some rest. I lay down with my back to the fire, and soon enough, I am drifting off into sleep.
