Alastor's POV
I have been visiting this mortal now for two weeks.
I learned her name is Ariel, and she's quite the little character, I must say.
Today was Thursday, and I had yet to stop by her little loft. I looked at my pocket watch.
5:15.
Yikes...I should probably drop in, wouldn't want to miss out on a day! That would put a stilt in our agreement, and I can't have that.
With the snap of my fingers, I appeared in the over world. Her apartment was dark.
It was still, and quiet, and my brows turned up in curiosity.
Walking forward, I noticed a small handwritten note on her counter.
"Alastor,
I think you were running late, that's ok! I know you're busy...
I laid down, so if I'm not here when you arrive I'm probably in my room. You're free to wake me up, or do whatever."
After reading the note, I read it again. Her handwriting was neat and round.
I wonder how long she waited for me...
Never the matter, it's not important. Perhaps now I can get a little work done, so there's that.
As I raised my hand to snap, my eyes caught her slightly ajar door. Inside it was dark, and I hesitated, then lowered my hand.
I approached the door, and gently pushed it open, looking in.
There, on her bed, she was curled up on top of her blankets. She had her pink pillow hugged to her chest, and I watched her shiver as I entered the room.
Demons tend to make rooms cold.
Quietly, I approached her bed, and looked down at her sleeping form. So small. She looked like a gentle wind would blow her away.
I sat next to her, and just observed her sleeping body. She looked peaceful, less stressed. The worry lines that are constantly on her face were relaxed.
I reached forward, brushing a bit of hair away from her face. She made a soft noise, and I quickly went to retreat my hand, but she caught me.
Without opening her eyes, her slim fingers wrapped around mine and she held my hand by her chest.
The feeling of her heartbeat made me curious about what she might taste like. Would her blood be sweet?
What to do with you, cherie.
After several minutes of listening to her quiet breaths, and feeling her heartbeat against my hand, she slowly fluttered her eyes open.
Her long eyelashes batted gently, and then her grip tightened on my hand. She pulled me a bit closer, and I tilted my head curiously.
Then her eyes shot wide open, and she looked up at me. Those big green eyes met mine, and I could feel her heart hammering against her chest until she shoved my hand away.
"I-I-I'm sorry," she sputtered out, and I was curious as to why she was apologizing.
I waved my hand and the lights in her room came to life. She was wearing a large t shirt, and I couldn't tell if she was wearing bottoms.
I hope she was.
She sat up quickly, her hair fluffing up. She ran her fingers through it, and I could see the clear flush on her cheeks.
I smirked, and narrowed my eyes on her, "oh, dear, was someone having a good dream? I apologize for waking you," I said, not very sincerely.
However, she shook her head, mumbling softly, "no, don't worry about it, you startled me..."
My expression faltered, and I pressed my lips together. This girl...
"It was actually a nightmare, so thank you..." she said after a moment.
Oh?
"Oh, do tell," I said, leaning forward a bit. She didn't lean away, and that's the first time she hasn't. She merely looked up and met my eyes.
Hers were puffy from just waking up, and her soft cheeks held small lines from where she was laying. Her lips were pouty and it was clear her dream had upset her.
I found myself lost for a moment in her features, her gentle face distracting me. I shook my head and awaited her reply.
"It was nothing," she said quietly, avoiding my eyes, "I was being chased, that's all,"
Her voice told me that was not all, but I suppose I shouldn't pry.
"If you insist, dear," I shrugged, and she shifted next to me. She pulled her legs close to her chest, and looked over at me.
"I'm sorry, for making you wait," she said, and I chuckled.
"Darling, I'm the one who was late! It's me who should apologize," I told her, and she sighed.
"Yea, but I feel bad for holding onto you while I was sleeping..."
I wasn't going to tell her that was my fault.
"It's quite alright, I'll let it slide," I waved off her concern, and she gave me a tiny smile. Something in me moved at the sight of it.
I found I like when she smiles.
Over the past two weeks I've learned shes an anxious little thing. Every little thing she does she worries about.
I have to reassure her often that I'm not going to eat her.
"So, waddayou wanna do?" She asked me, and I tilted my head, trying to think.
I shrugged. I'm not too keen on the mortal world anymore, so I'm not sure what there is to do.
But she didn't seem to mind my indecisiveness, and her eyes lit up, losing their tiredness.
"Want to watch a movie?"
The picture show? Hm...perhaps that won't be too bad.
"Sounds fine to me my dear! You go pick a movie, I'll meet you out there," I told her, and she smiled big, leaving me to watch her as she excitedly ran to the sitting room.
I sighed after she left, and looked back down at her bed where she'd been laying.
I put my hand over the spot, feeling that it was still warm. I gently drug my fingers across her pillow, I could smell it from here. Her scent was basically drilled into it.
She smells like pine and flowers.
I was lost in thought, just staring at her pillow. The image of her soft smile entered my mind, and I sighed.
This girl truly sold her soul...for a friend.
Albeit it was an accident...still, she felt desperate enough internally to try something stupid like that.
I don't have many friends myself. I guess I could say Rosie is my friend...and Mimzy...although Mimzy is more enamored with me.
"Alastor!"
My ear twitched and I looked towards the door where her voice had come from.
Perhaps making her an addition to the list won't be too bad...
