Ariels POV

I've felt closer to Alastor since that night after the party. It's been a week since then, and he's become even more open with me.

I never did ask him what made him so angry that night. I thought he was going to kill me, but I could see in his eyes there was something else bothering him. His anger mixed with my fear and suppressed anger created a bomb.

And after it exploded I just couldn't bring myself to pull the subject back up.

But now I'm sitting here picking at my nails glancing his direction as it festers in my brain. I curled up further under the soft blanket he conjured for me, and my mind wondered to the tv demon.

That look he gave me...

I shivered and sighed heavily, burying my head into my knees. Suddenly I felt something bump into my arm, and I looked over.

Alastor's shadow was there, churring softly as he looked up at me, his eyebrows upturned in worry. I smiled down at him and let him crawl into my lap.

"Hi sweetheart, what's daddy doin huh?" I asked him in a soft voice, glancing over at Alastor who was browsing books. His ear swiveled, so I knew he was listening somewhat.

Alastor's shadow purred softly and squinted his electric blue eyes as I scratched behind his ears. I leaned down and whispered to him, "you're a good boy...such a good boy, yes you are, you want an imp for dinner?"

He sat up and his eyes widened as he nodded excitedly. I giggled and brushed my fingers over his cheek, "I'll tell daddy to go get you one," I said quietly and glanced over at Alastor.

He was gone.

My eyes widened and I looked back to his shadow. Suddenly I got snatched up and I squealed as Alastor held me close to him and buried his face in my neck, pretending to bite me.

I giggled and Alastor's shadow tilted his head, his ears flopping to the side as he churred curiously.

"Darling, what are you over here whispering about?" Alastor asked me, glancing between me and his shadow. Having Alastor's shadow around is like having a Great Dane that acts like a cat.

I put my hand on his chest, my other one hooked around his neck. He was holding me bridal style, and I hummed softly.

"Your boy wants an imp for dinner..." he lowered his eyelids and opened his mouth, but before he could say no I tilted my head and gave him the eyes.

He froze and clamped his mouth shut, biting the inside of his lip. He sighed and let his head fall back, murmuring something before he looked to me with a soft smile.

"Ok..."

His shadow churred excitedly, and I giggled. Without putting me down, Alastor waved his hand and opened a portal. He reached through it and yanked through an imp.

The shivering creature glanced around before shrinking back. He tried to scurry back through the portal but it snapped shut.

Alastor tossed him to the ground, and Alastor's shadow widened his jagged smile. Alastor flicked his wrist towards the elevator, making the doors snap open. He looked down at the imp.

"Go on, run. He likes the chase," Alastor shooed the small creature away and I stared down at him. My eyes softened and I looked away.

The imp scrambled into the elevator and the doors snapped shut. Alastor's shadow churred at me and I gave him a smile before he disappeared. I felt myself get placed gently onto the couch.
