Upbeat pop played from Lia's phone, as she gently bopped her head to match the beat of the music.
She tapped her pencil against her desk, staring down at her science worksheet. Glancing up at her wall, her eyes traced the dozens of album cover posters she had hung up.
Her life was going well. Really well.
A few months ago, around the time Zoey had started hanging out with Milly a lot more, she had begun to grow distant towards Lia. Lia was quite hurt, after being a loyal friend to Zoey for so many years, Zoey had replaced her so easily. That being said, she was also happy for Zoey, happy to see her friend grow into a better person.
Besides, it wasn't like they were complete strangers now. They still talked, and hung out occasionally, they just weren't nearly as close as they used to be.
Then, Lia started hanging out with Daisy. They had grown so close, and Daisy was no doubt her best friend.
Lia also had a boyfriend now. Danny- a worker she had met at the mall. Their relationship wasn't too serious, they had only been a couple for about a month now, but regardless, Danny was a sweet boy who treated Lia well, and she was grateful to have met him.
Ring.
Hearing the familiar sound of her ringtone, Lia slightly jumped, reaching for her phone. Her hand brushed the jittery magenta case, flipping over the device.
An unknown caller.
Assuming it was a telemarketer, Lia hung up the phone, putting it back on her desk. Her music continued, only for a couple of seconds though, as it was once again interrupted by her ringtone.
Slightly annoyed now, Lia picked up the device, accepting the call.
"Hello?" She uttered.
"Hi," A rather cheery voice responded, "This is Lia Donelly, correct?"
Lia narrowed her eyes, "Yes, do I know you?" She cautioned.
"No, I don't believe we've had a proper introduction," The voice chirped, maintaining its delighted tone.
There was a small silence, as the person on the other line cleared their throat. "Hi, Lia." The voice no longer sounded cheerful or happy. Now, it was much more sly, malicious, almost. "My name is Kingsley Patel. I believe we can help each other out."
On one hand, Lia wanted to hang up the phone and lock the number, but on the other hand, she was curious...
"How so?" Lia asked, leaning back in her chair.
"I'm glad you asked," Though she couldn't see this boy supposedly named Kingsley, she could hear from his voice that he was smiling. "You know Hailey Austin and Jake Sterling, correct?"
Lia stayed silent for a few moments, Ignoring his question, she asked, "How did you get my number?"
"Irrelevant."
Contemplating with herself for a short while, Lia faltered, "Yes, I do."
"Perfect," Kingsley replied. "Now, Lia, you wanna get into River Valley University, correct?"

Lia paused, her body tensing up. She couldn't help but feel slightly uncomfortable. How did this boy know so much about her? "I did... Who told you that?"
"Both my parents are well-respected business people. I have many family connections," Kingsley explained, "One of those connections happens to be to that school... I noticed you applied, yet you're still a junior. If you're applying while you're just a junior, you must be pretty desperate to get in, huh?"
