One question; why do y'all hate Kingsley so much? Like I respect your opinions and all, but I actually like him XD
"I know, the hotel is so nice, I got a suite and the competition covers all of it," Luke murmured into his phone, collapsing onto the white hotel bed sheets.
"Wow, that sounds really nice!" His good friend beamed back from the other line, "You've only been gone a day and I miss you so much... Sometimes I feel like you're the only person I can talk to, y'know?"
"No, I understand," Luke replied, "I mean, there are lots of things I can't really talk about with Zander..."
"Yeah? Like how you're up in California canoodling with your soul surfer?" Hailey teased, softly giggling.
"H-hey!" Luke stammered back, flushing in embarrassment, "There is no canoodling! And besides, you're probably cuddled up next to Kingsley right now!" He spat in an attempt to defend himself.
There was silence on the other line for a while, before Hailey muttered, "You know, sometimes I really wanna slap you."
Luke loudly laughed in triumph, when there was a sudden knock on his hotel room door. "Oh, sorry, Hails! I gotta go, I'll call you back later!"
"Bye, Luke!" Hailey exclaimed.
Luke smiled, hanging up the phone as he stood up, making his way to the door.
Upon opening it, he was greeted by two arms wrapping tightly around him.
"Oh, hey, Stacy!" He happily spoke, gently hugging her back.
"Hi, Luke!" She exclaimed in her usual cheery tone, pulling out of their hold, "So, I was thinking we could go down to the beach, check out the setup, and maybe catch some waves?"
"Sounds good!" The auburn-haired boy grinned, "The competition also covers dinner for the hotel restaurant, so maybe we could head there afterward?"
"Sure thing," The shorter girl agreed, "I can take your board down to the lobby while you change into your wetsuit, if you'd like."
"Okay!" The drummer beamed back. He then went to where he had placed his board, a candy red surfboard Hailey had gifted him last year, it was dear to him. He carefully handed it to Stacy, his usual smile on his face.
"I'll be careful with it," The navy-haired girl assured, taking the board in his arms.
"Thank you so much, Stacy!" Luke spoke, watching her leave the room.
Once she left, Luke went to retrieve his wetsuit. However, before he could grab the item, he heard the familiar sound of his ringtone from his bed.
At first, Luke assumed Hailey was calling him back, although he quickly remembered he had hung up on her.
Checking his phone screen, Luke saw the collar ID of his boyfriend, a purple heart next to his name.
Shyly smiling to himself, Luke accepted the call, pulling the device to his ear.
"Hey, darling. What's up?"
Barely giving Luke enough time to finish his sentence, Zander's voice quickly gushed, "Luke? Are you alone?" His voice was agitated, panicked, even.
"Uh, yeah, why?" Luke responded, confused and concerned by his childhood friend's uneasy tone.
"I... Um... I have to tell you something."
---
As soon as Hailey heard the small beep that indicated the call had ended, she pulled her phone away from her face, turning it off and placing it face down on her desk.
