Now, I was getting closer to Mustapha.

Too close.

He laughed, "Okay, for real, that is actually funny. I'm sorry, I know it was a painful experience for you."

"Of course it was. I hit my forehead against a pot of food as a toddler." I hissed.

He chuckled, "That must have been awful. Again, I'm sorry for laughing."

"It's fine." I nodded.

Then we stayed silent for a moment.

Mustapha sighed, "I wish it could be like this forever."

I was puzzled, "How do you mean?"

"Just you and I talking like this, laughing at each other's jokes..." He said.

I rolled my eyes not thinking much, "Lalai, you wish. You have a meeting in 10 minutes. Let me even go."

I stood up but he stood with me and pulled me back with enough force to bring my body to his.

I wasn't too short so our faces nearly touched.

He just stared at me while I blinked several times, not being able to stop for some reason.

"Forget about the meeting." He said.

I mumbled, "W-what do you mean? It's a board meeting-"

"So what? It's not as important as you." He spoke in a very calm manner.

It gave me the chills.

Not just that but his one arm around my waist at the moment.

"M-me?" I breathed.

"Yes, Karimah. You are very important to me." He told me.

"Am I?"

He smirked, "You want me to prove it to you?"

I tilted my head in confusion.

"Soon, very soon. Karimah." Is all he said before letting go of me.

He walked to his desk and grabbed his suit from his chair. He put it on and walked out of the room.

What is happening 'very soon'?

I went out of his office and returned to my desk just thinking hard about what he said.

Then a hand slammed against my desk all of a sudden.

I looked at the hand and realized that it was a lady's hand. I glanced at her face.

Oh, of course.

"Hello, latest bride-to-be, how can I help you?" I asked her sarcastically.

She glared at me in a deadly manner, "Who do you think you are?"

Okay, what's going on?

"What..."

"How dare you?! How dare you try to steal my Musty away from me?! Do you have any idea how many years I have waited-"

"Hold up, how do I have anything to do with you two?" I asked the question that had been eating me up.

She chuckled mirthlessly, "You really don't know who you're messing with, do you? Well, I'll use words to warn you for now but next time, you won't be as lucky. Just watch your back."

"I don't understand you, what did I do? I'm only working for Mustapha, please." I was getting pissed.

"Mustapha? You dare call him by his name. You have asked for the worst and you're certainly going to get it." She threatened and strutted off.

This isn't funny at all.

What did I do wrong to that woman?

Deciding today has been stressful enough for me, I packed my stuff and got ready to leave.

"Are you leaving already?" I heard a familiar voice as behind me.

I turned to face my boss, "I'm sorry but I need to leave now, I don't feel well."

He looked concerned, "Oh, do you need me to take you to the hospital?"

I shook my head, "No, I'm good. I just need to go home and rest."

"Are you sure? I really don't mind-"

"No. Just leave it, I already told you, I'll do just fine on my own." I said, my voice coming out a bit harsher than I wished.

With that, I grabbed my bag and walked off.

I went into the elevator looking down at first but when I looked up, I noticed Mustapha staring at me on the same spot as the doors slid closed.

I went straight home and rested my head on my pillow almost immediately. I fell asleep in a matter of seconds.
