"So you're doing fine now koh?" Ummi asked.

I was getting tired of this phone call, we've been talking for hours. The problem was Ummi worrying too much about me.

"Yes, Ummi." I sighed.

"Okay, I now agree. Now I can sleep peacefully."

"Toh Ummi, I actually have somewhere to be now so I'll call you later?"

"And by later I hope you mean later today,"

"Yes, I do. Bye, my regards to Baba and Yusuf." I said before hanging up.

I wasn't lying when I had somewhere to be, I was going out with Aunty Raliyah to her friend's house.

She said that her friend had kids around my age so we agreed I could make new friends.

I got dressed and went downstairs to meet her. We went into the car and Amir drove us to the house.

As we got there, we were welcomed warmly by her friend.

"Ina wuni." I greeted her.

"Lafiya kalau, ya kike?(How are you?)" She smiled.

Aunty Raliyah chimed in, "This is my neice, Karimah. Karimah, my friend, Hajiya Asmau."

Two girls suddenly stepped into the living room. Twins, per say.

"Yawa. Karimah, these are my daughters, Habibah and Halimah." She introduced.

She added, "They just entered University too."

The twins were identical. I knew then that I was going to have a hard time getting to know them.

"Let's not confuse you, I'm Habibah and She's Halimah." Habibah said to me, referring to the girl next to her as Halimah.

"Halimah is a bit of an introvert so it might difficult to get along with her but you'll do fine." Habibah explained.

Oh, I'm already used to introverts.

I nodded and looked over at Halimah, "Nice to meet you."

She only nodded.

Habibah rolled her eyes, "Rabu da ita(Ignore her). Come, let me show you to our room..."

She trailed off as her eyes caught something behind me, I followed her gaze and saw that it was Amir.

"Hi!" She waved at him cheerfully.

He didn't even spare her a glance. Although, I knew he saw her from the corner of his eye.

"As a matter of fact, Amir is just like Halimah." I stated.

She shrugged, "Yeah I already know, we've met a few times before now. He's never changed."

"Yup, that's Amir for you."

"Ehn, enough of that topic, let's just go to my room." She pulled me with her while Halimah tagged along.

We got to their room and I could clearly see the line of division. One half of the room was girly, too girly. That particular part of the room walls were even painted pink. The other part however was painted maroon. You could tell it was a girl's room though, it had a girly feel to it.

"Pink! My fav!" Habibah squealed as she threw herself onto her baby pink bed.

She sat up, "I know, we're completely different but it's best that way. We don't have to wear matching outfits or act the same like twins in a cliché-ridden movie."

"Halimah even suggested getting seperate rooms and I definitely couldn't agree more. I mean, look at this place, there are literally enough rooms but no, Mama said we must share a room. According to her, it's cute."

Halimah finally spoke, "Honestly, I don't have a problem sharing a room but come on, it's quite annoying. Habibah snores!"

Habibah countered with a dramatic gasp, "Allah ya kama ki, kema you snore fah(God has caught you, you also snore). I've even been waiting for you to deny it, I have a video."

I couldn't help myself, I burst out laughing.

These girls were hilarious!

"Kai! No jokes fah, I have-"

Halimah cut her off by throwing a pillow at her.

"Ai I'll still show her."

"Stop! Habibah, I'm not joking fah!" Halimah snapped.

Amir stepped into the room with another guy beside him.

He had a slight resemblance to the twins.

Amir mouthed, "What's going on here?"

I shrugged as I returned my attention to the girls who were now running about the room, scattering everything.

They suddenly stopped, "Ya Hassan..."

I chuckled at the fact that they said that in unison.

"Halimah, Habibah, Are you guys the only twins in the world?! Everytime you'll be scattering the room like two dumb monkeys!" He scolded them.

"Sorry." Habibah mumbled.

Halimah seemed hesitant at first but she still said it.

"I don't want to come here next time to find you girls doing this again." He warned still glaring at them before his gaze averted to me.

Habibah was quick to speak, "She's Karimah. Amir's cousin."

"Oh. Hello, I'm Hassan and the older brother of the mad twins, unfortunately." He introduced himself.

I chuckled at the mention of the word 'unfortunately'.

"Nice to meet you." I said.

"Same. Okay, have fun..." He looked back at the girls, "if you can."

I smiled as he walked out of the room with Amir.

"Ya Hassan is so annoying." Habibah whined.

Halimah simply hissed, "Bari ya jiki(Let him hear you)."

It was nice to finally make friends but I wasn't too sure about these two. They didn't even along well with each other talk less of getting along with me.

Habibah was cheerful and all but Halimah was the shady type. I'll try my best to work with the both of them.

A knock came at the door and Amir walked in.

He said, "Karimah, it's time to go."

I nodded and he left.

I turned to the twins, "It was nice meeting both of you so we should probably keep in touch."

Habibah nodded, "Let's exchange numbers."

I smiled as we swapped phones and exchanged numbers.

I did the same with Halimah before bidding them goodbye and leaving at once.

Hm, now that I've gone through the 'meeting new people' stage in Abuja. I suppose it's time to move to the next level.

Settling in.
