Even at school, I couldn't stop thinking about what happened between me and Mustapha the other day.
We only kissed but that moment never left my head.
We actually had dinner afterwards but we didn't bring it up. Although, I could tell Mustapha wanted to say something about it the entire night.
He was smiling so much and staring at me for a really long time.
And I just blushed like an idiot.
"Why are you blushing?" Someone asked.
I turned to Salma who was actually seated beside me during the lecture.
The lecture, my last lecture for today.
And then I'll have to go to work...
And face my boss.
"Since you're not going to tell me, I'll take a quick guess. Is this about Khalil?" She asked.
I gulped as I remembered Khalil.
Oh, Khalil.
I shook my head.
I haven't actually told Salma about Mustapha. All she knew about him was that he was Halimah and Habibah's sister-in-law's brother.
And the guy who just kept messaging me.
This wasn't the right time to tell her, as we were in the middle of a lecture so I decided I was going to tell her tomorrow.
"It's nothing. I just remembered something embarrassing." I lied.
Partially.
Frankly speaking, I was embarrassed at the fact that I was blushing during dinner with Mustapha when we only kissed.
"Okay. If you say so." She shrugged.
I snapped out of my thoughts and returned my attention to the lecture.
But it ended too fast.
What if I just skipped work for today?
He wouldn't get mad right?
No, I shouldn't. I work part time so it'd be unfair if I skipped work.
Sighing heavily, I finally got into the Uber car that had been waiting for me for some minutes.
As I got to work, I tried to get myself busy doing something. Anything.
Then I remembered, there was no way I could escape seeing him today. In fact, I had to report to him that he was having an appointment today.
I stood by his door and knocked after a moment of hesitation.
"Come in."
I went in.
He looked up from his computer screen and smiled brightly as he saw me. Oh God.
His smile was to die for...but I couldn't get carried away.
"Sir, you have an appointment-"
"Hello Karimah," He cut me off as he stood up from his seat.
"G-good Afternoon, s-"
"Mustapha. No need for formalities, okay?" He interrupted again.
"But, we're at work." I said.
"Still." He said curtly.
I nodded, "Okay."
"And, please...stop calling me 'sir'. You were calling me Mustapha the other day so don't change it now." He said.
Again, I nodded.
"I'll take my leave now." I turned to leave but stopped on my own without him telling me.
I faced him again, "Should I leave?"
He shook his head, "No."
So I stood there motionless.
He walked up to me, stopping at least two feet away from me.
"You're thinking too much about the other day at the amusement park when we kissed." He said as straightforwardly as ever.
I shrugged, "I don't know what you're talking about."
He chuckled, "Wow, now you're playing dumb. Incredible."
I sighed, "We shouldn't have done that. I can't seem concentrate because of it."
"Well, do you regret it?" He questioned.
I was finding it hard to answer that question and I began asking myself the question.
He took one step forward, his eyes drilling into my soul, "Would you do it again?"
A lump rose in my throat and I instinctively went out of the room.
I tried to do some work but I got distracted thinking about his questions.
I think I need psychological help.
What is wrong with me? It was just a kiss...
The telephone started ringing and I lifted my head from the table to pick up the call.
"Hello?" I answered.
"This is the CEO of Yemin company speaking. I'm requesting a meeting with Mr Sani of Sani LTD." The male voice said.
Yemin company?
Wasn't that the company that made an illegal proposal to Mustapha?
"Um, please hold on, I'll talk to Mr Sani first." I said as I dropped the phone aside and walked to Mustapha's office.
I knocked on the door and went in as he permitted me to.
"Sir- Mustapha, the CEO from Yemin company just called and he requested for a meeting with you." I said to him.
He grinned in amusement, "Oh. They don't want to give up yet, do they?"
He frowned, "Tell him that that wouldn't be possible because I went on a business trip."
"What?" I said absentmindedly.
I told the man that I was going talk to him!
"I-I can't do that. I actually told him that I was going to talk to you." I told him.
He sighed, "Fine. Tell him we can have a meeting by 4:00pm."
"Okay." I walked out.
I returned to the call and answered the man, telling him exactly what Mustapha asked me to say.
Then I decided to go down and have a little chat with Janet since I didn't have any work left to do.
Since she didn't have any customers at the moment, we just sat at a table and chatted while having some snacks.
Then she asked me a question I couldn't answer, "So, is there anything going between you and the CEO?"
*Gulp*
I blushed in embarrassment, "What do you mean?"
She snapped her fingers, "Kaman na sani. Oh, I can't wait for the two of you to-"
I stood up, "Janet, I better get back to work."
She smirked and just pulled me back down by my arm.
With a wink, she whispered, "Oya, start from the beginning."
