A month later
"Yeah? Maybe tonight, I'm already on my way to the hospital."
"Of course you are, you can't do a day without seeing your best friend. I totally understand." Mustapha said.
"I'm sorry, I have to hang up now. I've arrived at the hospital." I told him.
"Sure, I'll see you tonight." He hung up.
I smiled as I made my way to the entrance of the hospital.
It's been a month and I haven't missed a day of visiting Khalil. He had recovered from most of his injuries, he just hadn't opened his eyes yet.
Yes, he was in a coma.
Still, I visited him every single day. I talked to him even though I knew he wouldn't reply, I read to him and sometimes I even spent the night by his side.
I know, real cheesy but I can't help it. It's the least I could do.
No one would say it, but this was partly my fault.
Of course, Mustapha was jealous that I spent so much time with him but even he knew that there was nothing he could do to stop me whatsoever.
I went into the hospital room, still smiling. My smile only grew as I realized that they had taken off the bandage on his leg.
Which meant he had recovered from that injury too.
The only place that was still recovering was his head, it was still bandaged. Overall, he looked better now and he seemed to be getting his natural complexion back.
That was a good sign.
I took my usual seat beside him and held his hand as usual.
"Look at you, you're as good as new. You just have to open your eyes and then you'll see me again. Don't you want to see me?" I spoke to him.
Of course, no reply.
"If you really miss me then I just need you to open your eyes-"
I stopped talking as I felt his hand squeeze mine softly. I looked at his face and saw that his eyes were open.
"Khalil...look at me." I whispered.
He slowly turned and looked at me but he seemed confused.
"Wh-who are you?" He questioned.
My heart sank.
"What?" I gasped.
He suddenly retrieved his hand from my grip and carefully scooted away from me.
"I'm sorry. D-do I know you?" He asked.
I thought I wasn't hearing right.
"Doctor! Doctor!" I yelled.
The doctor came into the room in an instant, "What's the problem, miss-" he paused as he looked at Khalil.
With a smile, he said, "Oh, he's awake. I did see that coming."
"He...um...he doesn't remember me?" I said with a questioning tone.
"What?" The doctor was perplexed.
"He doesn't know who I am. Did he lose his memory?" I questioned him.
"Um, I think I need to perform a check up on him. In the meantime, could you please call his friends and relatives? The people he's close to." He requested.
I nodded and left Khalil with the doctor.
I called Amir first then everyone else, including Khalil's mother, telling her to bring Muna along.
