"I'm not here for work today." I said to Mustapha just as he greeted me.

He looked confused, "What...then why are you here?"

"I came to resign. I'm sorry but I think it's best I stopped working for you and we just went our separate ways." I told him with a forced smile.

I let my head down so as to not look at the expression on his face.

Then I heard his footsteps, and his warmth soon enveloped me, "Why?"

Hearing the disappointment in his voice definitely made my heart ache but I had to set my emotions aside.

This was the right thing to do.

"I just can't handle it anymore. I need to face my studies." I lied.

"You could stop working for me but is it really necessary to avoid me afterwards?" He asked calmly.

I sighed and looked up at last, "Mustapha, I just can't see you anymore."

He let out a breath, his voice grew cold as he spoke next, "This isn't about your studies, it's about cutting ties with me."

Shoot.

"N-no, that's not it. I promise." I tried to convince him.

His eyes darkened, "Answer honestly, what or who motivated you to do this?"

That, I can't say.

"Mustapha-"

He closed his eyes and turned away from me. This was the first time he was showing me his back and it hurt more than anything.

"Leave." His voice was calm but I knew he was anything but calm at this moment.

"No." I said and stood my ground.

I don't know why...I guess I just wanted to try to resolve this issue. I couldn't leave knowing he was about to hate me.

He turned to me and for some reason, his eyes were red but he wasn't even crying.

Then, the anger flared in his eyes, "Get. Out."

I was frightened but I didn't want to move. I couldn't. I was frozen on my spot.

He stared at me for a moment and I thought maybe he would calm down but the next thing he said didn't confirm my expectation.

"Get the hell out of my office before I lose my temper!" He yelled loudly.

He used this same words on Jennifer but the way he said it to me was much more painful.

"Fine! I'll leave but you can't hate me forever!" I spat and was finally able to leave.

Upon stepping out, I met Jennifer at the door.

A satisfied smirk was plastered on her face.

"What are you still doing standing there? Leave. Leave him alone for good." She said the last part in a whisper before she shoved me out of the way and walked in.

I'll just let her have the satisfaction of taunting me.

Her fate wouldn't be any different from mine when she goes in anyway.

I was just about to walk away when I suddenly heard laughter.

I couldn't just ignore it.

I brought my ear closer to the door and I felt a stab in my chest as I heard Mustapha laugh loudly.

He was laughing...just after I left.

What was I even doing thinking so much about this?

I matched my way to the elevator and went inside.

Then just like that, it started to rain.

I simply called an Uber like I usually did and it arrived in no time.

I heard that it only rained when it was a bad day.

As superstitious as that sounds, I was starting to believe it.

I soon realized that the storm was getting worse and before I knew it, the car spun around abnormally.

I wasn't able to process what was going on until I heard a loud crash.

I didn't even feel any pain but I couldn't move a muscle. It was like I got paralyzed in the shock of the moment.

My heart clenched as I realized that the car was upside down.

I knew it could explode any minute from now but I literally couldn't move, I just stayed there in an awkward position.

I was probably injured but I just couldn't feel the pain. At this point, I was certain that something was wrong with me.

And my vision soon got blurry until there was nothing but darkness.
