The moment I had been waiting for finally came. The day I stepped into Nile University. Here I was, standing outside the gates.
I sucked in a breath and exhaled as I turned to see no one. Amir...
I looked around and spotted him walking towards the entrance.
"Amir! Wait for me now!" I yelled as I ran as fast as I could trying so hard to catch up to him.
But of course, I just had to trip and fall face first- No, something interrupted that.
My eyes were closed but I could tell I hadn't hit the ground.
What's taking so long?
My eyes fluttered open to look up to the guy who had his arms wrapped around me to prevent me from falling.
I instinctively regained my composure causing him to let go.
"Thank you." I smiled and turned to leave.
He stopped me, "Wait,"
I faced him with a questioning look.
"What's your name?" He asked.
"Karimah. Karimah Usman. It was nice meeting you, I have to get going now." I said dismissively.
It seemed like he still had more questions to ask so I didn't leave just yet.
"It looked like you were chasing after someone, who was it?"
Ahn Ahn, what's with the questions?
I decided to answer for the last time, "Toh Mr Detective, He's my cousin. Amir Tukur."
He chuckled, "How unfortunate."
It was now my turn to ask questions.
I quirked a brow, "Do you happen to know Amir?"
"Yeah, we get along quite well. We're actually best friends but he refuses to admit it." He told me.
I grinned, "Well, Good for you. I'm his cousin and we certainly don't get along well. He's quite arrogant."
"That is very true but I've already accepted it. We're cool." He said.
I slowly nodded, "That's nice. What's your name anyway?"
"Taheer Bello." He replied.
"Right. I suppose you're in 200 level too, just like Amir?"
"Yep."
"Good. Now please show me around. Amir refused." I said.
He nodded, "No problem."
He began walking towards the entrance whilst I tagged around.
He gave me a short tour of the place, stopping at the front of the Dean's office with me.
"You should meet him if you need some more information about the school." He said to me.
"Okay toh. Thanks for everything, Taheer." I smiled at him before knocking on the door and going in.
"Good Morning, sir." I greeted him.
"Same to you. You must be new?" He asked.
I nodded, "My name is Karimah Usman."
He opened his drawer, "Ah yes, I remember..."
Trailing off, he drew a file out of the drawer and handed it to me.
"Yawa, this file is all you need." He told me.
"Okay. Thank you, sir. Have a nice day." I smiled and made my way out of the office.
As I got out, the first thing that came to my mind was to find my way to my first lecture.
With the help of the map in the file, I managed to get there. Maths 101.
I got seated as my eyes roamed about.
I paid my full attention to the lecturer, making sure I understood every single word that came out of his mouth.
I was excited to be in Abuja but not so excited to the extent of getting carried away. I was here for a reason.
When the lecture ended, hours had gone by and I decided it was time to take a lunch break since I didn't have any other lecture until 4 pm.
I spotted Amir and Taheer walking down the hallway. Their backs were facing me but I could tell they were chatting and Amir was actually laughing.
Interesting.
I further observed, Taheer kept talking then suddenly Amir froze and turned to Taheer in a very scary manner.
What must have gone wrong now?
They were too far away for me to here what Amir said before walking past Taheer.
Taheer ran after him and slapped the back of his head.
It was clearly a joke but Amir didn't seem to be finding it funny.
Before I could process anything, Amir threw punch at Taheer's face. The two boys soon came to blows.
People's attention was being drawn at the scene in front of them.
I rushed over to the boys and managed to separate them.
"The both of you are mad!" I spat before walking off.
I finally went on my lunch break.
I nearly choked as I set eyes on Salma looking around for somewhere to sit.
"Salma! Over here!" I waved to her.
She soon noticed me and came over to the table where I sat.
"Ah ah, ya kike? How's your day going so far?" She took her seat.
"Gaskiya(Honestly), it's been stressful. You wouldn't believe it, I bumped into Amir's best friend and he gave me a tour. Sometime later, I saw them gisting and laughing together only for fight to start." I narrated.
"Ah, you're even lucky you got someone to show you around. I've gotten lost at least three times today." She told me.
I laughed, "Ko ba komai(If anything), Alhamdulillah(Thank God) that we managed to find ourselves here."
She nodded.
Taheer came approaching us and I sighed boredly.
"Lafiya?" I asked him as he sat down.
"I've been looking for you, I thought you got lost." He said.
I couldn't stop myself from laughing, "Sanu(Well done), superman."
I turned to Salma, "Did I forget to mention that he saved me from falling down earlier? I think that thing has started shacking his brain."
"Mallam, karka damu(Don't worry). I won't fall again." I assured him.
Salma looked at me, then at him before she burst into laughter. I joined her soon.
"Oho, hakane?(Is that so?) I've become a clown, koh?" He stood up.
"Dakata(Hold on), what happened between you and Amir?" I asked with all seriousness.
"It was nothing. We usually play like that." He turned to leave.
"That didn't seem like a game." I said back.
"Well it was, even if it didn't seem like it."
