(Jin Ah POV)
The morning view of Jeju Island never fails to mesmerise me. I can view the sunrise from my bedroom window. I can also view the vast lawn in front of our house where our children can roam free and play. Working on their imagination while enjoying nature. Talking about children, I can hear them laughing and talking to each other from their playroom. The girls are talkative, especially Chae Yeon; I wonder who they take after. Most probably their halmeoni, my eomonim. Chae Yoon is the soft-spoken one. You can't hear her voice unless you pay attention to her. While Jae Wook, he is the kindest and sweetest big brother to the twins. He always plays with them and takes care of them well.
The girls love their brother so much, but Chae Yeon can be a little bit bossy sometimes. Often, she wants to take charge. Sometimes it can be intimidating to Jae Wook, but she is the one who always protects Jae Wook from being bully. She knows how to protect her brother. On the other hand, Chae Yoon is the total opposite. She is a softie and a cry baby. When people look down on Jae Wook, she cries first before her brother. She is sensitive towards people around her. She is very empathetic, and it is not often seen in a 5-year-old like her. She always offers helps without being asked and 'Gwenchana?' is the word you will often hear from her. Chae Yoon behaviour is just like my husband. However, she is the social butterfly among the twins. She knows how to make friends as compared to Chae Yeon, who is shy with outsiders. It will take a while for Chae Yeon to befriend someone. Sometimes I think she is over analysing her friends. It's impressive to see how two-person who looks identical but having a total opposite behaviour.
I peek at them in their playroom before heading to my workshop. Jae Wook is in his element. Colouring. He is into colouring and interactive activities nowadays. He loves to explore science projects with his appa. As for the girls, they are being girls. Dolls are their best companion now. They can play together well though they have different types of favourite dolls. Chae Yeon is with her Barbie with so many costume set while Chae Yoon is with her Anatomy Jane which my father in law gave her during 4th birthday.
"Hey, what are you looking at?" a man is whispering in my ear. His aftershave scent invades my nostrils, and I love it. He smells fresh, and his toned biceps are wrapping me safe. After almost a decade, his embrace is still my favourite.
"Look at them," I pointed him to our children, who are busy playing. "Do you find it fascinating that we can witness ourselves in them? Jae Wook, for example, loves colouring and drawing, but at the same time, he enjoys science. And the girls, they are really mini us. One each. Chae Yeon looks more like you, but her attitude is more like mine, while Chae Yoon is the opposite. My face but your character. Don't you think we are blessed to be their parents?"
A kiss lands on my nape, and our cheeks are pasted on each other. "We are. Aside from you, they are my greatest gifts. Thank you for bringing them to the world and raised them well. I am pretty sure they will grow up well and become great persons."
Touching his hands that are locking at my waist, I look at the children that God has bestowed us. I still can believe that I am a mother to three amazing kids. "I can't do this alone. You are equally important in raising them too, and especially in shaping their behaviour."
Jung Hyuk has a unique parenting style; he is soft like a friend with the children, but at the same time, he is strict too. The kids listen to him regardless of when he is gentle or stern. I believe they have high respect for their appa that they obey him. I am the bad cop for the children. They are afraid of me, but they don't listen to me well like their father. I don't know why. Maybe I nag a lot that the message is just lost in translation along the way.
