"This sum bullshit!" Issei cried from over the phone.
"You heard the lady." Alex sighed, not particularly fond of the job either.
"She gets us all hyped up with this cool devil shit then tells us to run around town putting flyers in people's mailboxes!?"
"It is... strange. Delivering the flyers is annoying, but I don't mind the whole thing that much. Calm night, great time for a walk." Alex replied.
"Weirdo."
"Says the guy who spends all his time jacking off in his room to anime porn."
"It's hentai you uncultured-"
Alex ended the call, and with a deep breath, continued his task.
"I'm sorry, why do we have to do this?" Issei asked.
"Well as devils, an important form of both income and influence is making pacts with humans."
"Right, that makes sense."
"But there are many more devils out there. So how would we make sure we're chosen?" Rias asked. "Advertising, of course!"
...
"Koneko's double booked?" Alex asked.
"That's right. She's quite popular with our customers, and an error on our part led to her being scheduled with two clients at once." Rias explained.
"Normally, I would hold off on letting you or Issei perform pacts, but in this case I don't really have any other choice. Since you were the first one back, you'll be the one to do it."
Koneko bowed to Alex quickly in thanks.
Alex hummed. "Sure, I guess. What do I need to do?"
"First off, you'll step through the magic teleportation circle Akeno is constructing right now..."
Alex turned his head, finally seeing the large magic circle that was being drawn on the floor. "Huh? How did I just notice that?"
"Then, you'll make contact with the client. You'll need to listen to his request and fulfill it to the best of your abilities. Then, extract the payment."
"And what would the payment be? Their soul?"
Rias laughed. "No, of course not. It would take a lot for us to require a human soul as payment."
"Like what?"
"A life." Rias answered. "An eye for an eye, as they say."
"Oh."
"But we don't receive those requests very often, much less accept them." Rias waved her hand. "Simply anything of value will do. Something of similar value to what was done."
Alex sighed. "Right, I get it. Sure. Can't be that hard, right?"
Akeno finished up the teleportation circle and brought Alex over to it. "I have faith you will do a good job, Alex. Remember that you represent me and my family now, so do not act poorly." Rias declared, as the magic circle began lighting up.
"Don't worry, I won't do anything crazy." Alex brushed off.
Red light flooded the room in a quick flash, and once it was gone, so was Alex.
...
"What the- you're not Koneko!"
Alex took a moment to readjust himself. Instead of the clubroom, he was now inside a room full of packed shelves.
