Saji sighed as he decided to take a short breather to gather his thoughts.
Fuck... why did I agree to this? He whined internally, once more lamenting his predicament.
At first, he vehemently disagreed, purely due to the fear of Sona's reaction if he said yes.
But then he said yes.
But... isn't this escalating a lot? The Sitri pawn wondered. If what those exorcists said about an army was true, then wouldn't it be better to tell their masters what was happening?
Actually, if there was an army, then why did the church only have two exorcists sent?
No, actually, why was their an army in the first place?
None of this situation made any bit of sense to Saji Genshirou, from any side of it.
But that didn't matter all that much at this very moment. Because the main fact was that he was stuck in the middle of a very dangerous situation.
"But... where the hell am I supposed to look in the first place?" Saji asked aloud, looking around to see exactly where he'd run off to.
He was closer to the northern area of town. There wasn't much around. A few houses spaced out quite a bit further than elsewhere in town, and an abandoned auto lot at the end of the road.
Man, there are a lot of abandoned areas the further you go out. Maybe that's why so much crazy shit happens. Good places to hid.
He then let out a small laugh. At least the abandonment makes sense here, I don't think I've seen a single person drive a car since I've lived here. Which is weird considering all these cars are just sitting there. Maybe they're broken? But that doesn't make any sense...
This town is fucking weird.
"Well... there's fuck all here." Saji said flatly, stepping back. "I guess I should go look somewhe-"
Something smashed into Saji's back, bulldozing right past him and sending him rocketing to the ground, and rolling across the concrete road.
"...What... the fuck?" Saji gasped as he stopped rolling. He groaned, his head spinning, his ears ringing.
"Hm. I was hoping to take you down in a single, efficient blow, but you're more resilient than I estimated."
Saji shakily rose to his feet, looking around for his attacker. He spotted the only other person around.
He was an older man, tall, with lightly tanned skin, dark hair and stern features. He wore a black suit.
"Well, seeing as that didn't pan out for ya... any chance you'll just go away?" Saji asked, wincing.
The man stared at him coldly. "I was originally watching that stray dog of ours, but I sensed some kind of presence. I knew it would be fastest if I handled this myself, so I left supervision to the grunts."
It won't be fast if you keep talking so much. Saji couldn't help but think. But alas, he knew not to say something like that aloud. No. He wanted this guy to talk more.
"That, uh, wasn't really an answer my question." Saji said awkwardly.
Okay, maybe his actual response wasn't much better.
The man stood still and quiet for a moment before responding. "...Of course. Allow me to rectify that immediately."
There was a brief gust of wind as the man rushed towards Saji faster than the boy could blink. He punched Saji with a gloved fist, sending the poor pawn reeling.
