"COME ON SHERRY, I THINK IT'S TIME TO GO BACK."

"Just...just give her a couple more minutes." Sherry told her group of friends that she was sat with, eyeing the wooden door to the empty pub she had forgotten the name of after being sat inside it for hours on end.

Deep down she knew there was no point in waiting any longer, they had been waiting all day, but it was nice to have a little bit of hope. Even if it was just a tiny spark of it, it was lovely to hold on to but horrible when it gets extinguished. Hope could either boost your mood or crush it into tiny little pieces and with Sherry's luck, her hope was about to get destroyed.

"You said that an hour ago, babe." Matt told her softly, arm around her waist whilst he kissed her cheek gently in order to comfort her.

She leant into his touch, frowning as she met Marlene's eyes from across the table and smiled at the girl who had watched the whole interaction with no emotion before quickly snapping out of it and smiling back at Sherry. Lily was sat beside her, hands around one of the many empty cups of butterbeer dotted around the table.

"It's getting dark outside, Sher." Louis said gently, nudging her foot with his under the table and she just continued to stare at the door for a couple of more seconds whilst everyone glanced to each other sadly at the situation.

"The end of the trip is soon anyway." Lily smiled and Sherry closed her eyes before tilting her head to face the table below where her bags of birthday presents from her friends sat. Despite her actual birthday being the day before, she wanted this years to be the day after so she could spend time with her mother.

At least that had been the plan.

Sherry looked up with a sniffle that was so quiet and barely even there, there were no tears that anyone could see but then again she didn't meet eyes with anyone and just bent down to grab the bags from under the table whilst saying things that if everyone wasn't quiet, they wouldn't have heard at all.

"You're right, let's just go." She said and Matt helped her with some bags whilst the others got out of their seats and waited by the table for them to be ready, Matt carried one bag in each hand and Sherry carried two in each hand.

He put one of them in the other hand so he was carrying two in one whilst he attempted to throw his other arm around Sherry's shoulders but she shrugged him off and parted herself from the group in silence, walking ahead of them as they filtered out of the pub and called their thanks back to the barkeep. Oliver patted Matt on the back as they walked and the other boy looked just looked at him and sighed.

"Don't worry about it, mate." Oliver said as they walked and Matt pursed his lips at Sherry's back as she walked quickly ahead, hair billowing back with the force of the slight wind hitting her face. "Just be glad you weren't here the first time she had detention with Potter."
