"I THINK THAT WAS YOUR GREATEST FAIL YET."

"Shut it, Opal."

Sherry Opal and James Potter were playing chess again. The checked bored in between them was like a knot in the middle of a rope, the only thing to keep the rope of civility and almost friendship from snapping back into two separate halves. Yet at the same time, it acted as something that pitted them against each other in a war of strategy. It was quite an odd relationship the two of them had but it was a vast improvement from what they used to be.

Fridays weren't the worst day on Sherry's calendar anymore since they had started playing chess in the evenings but it was definitely a runner-up, especially when Potter won the chess games. But he had only done that three times. Sherry had won the rest and her smug smirk had sent Potter into a small burst of mumbles to himself that she couldn't quite catch distinguishably.

Usually their chess games and Friday nights were ways for them to deliver insults to one another in a playful manner, but tonight was different.

The Defence Against The Dark Arts exam went swimmingly for the most part, it was the aftermath that had caused the dim gloom set over the atmosphere. Sherry couldn't concentrate like she knew she wouldn't be able to at first and was tapping her foot the entire time.

The only questions she knew she was confident with her answered were the ones about werewolves in which she gave a sneaky glance back to Remus who sat a couple of rows back diagonally from her with a smug smile and he smiled back, shaking his head and looking back down at his paper. Then Potter caught her eyes from right behind her and she raised an eyebrow, glancing down at his paper.

He had hastily covered something he had been doodling and widened his eyes slightly before clearing his throat softly and smirking because the two of them had the werewolf section down to a T. Sherry smiled slightly again and turned back around, Remus watched Potter turn around excitedly to Sirius Black and smile and the boy gave him an excited thumbs-up back whilst lounging in his chair as Ariana Nelson stared at him hopefully from behind.

"Quills down, please!" Squeaked Professor Flitwick. "That means you too, Stebbins! Please remain seated while I collect your parchment! Accio!"

Over a hundred rolls of parchment zoomed into the air and into Professor Flitwick's outstretched arms, knocking him backwards off his feet. Several people laughed, including Sherry who gave a small snort. A couple of students at the front desks got up, took hold of Professor Flitwick beneath the elbows and lifted him back on to his feet.

"Thank you...thank you," Professor Flitwick panted as he dusted himself off and Sherry grabbed her bag from under her desk and stood with haste. Flitwick widened his eyes at the first person stood and dismissed everyone else. "Very well, everybody, you're free to go!"
