- Chapter Forty-Five -
"Thought I would surprise you."
SHERRY OPAL WAS GETTING BETTER.After her and Remus' little spontaneous meet up on the porch the previous day, Sherry had felt much calmer than she had all holidays but at the same time also felt much more angry. Calmer to the Lupin family instead of yelling every time she got the chance and bursting into a tantrum every time Potter's name was mentioned inside the walls. Angrier towards her mother who didn't bother to show or call, which she could do since the Lupin's had a landline that had only rung once.
It had been Potter on the other end but Sherry hadn't known until she had picked it up and said the greeting, met with a tense silence as she prompted for an answer before a stuttering voice came through, the familiar tones of James Potter that Sherry hung up on immediately. Remus had rang back as she could hear him apologise on her behalf when she was running up the stairs.
Although her attitude had slightly improved, her effort and energy was still in the low ranks. She still didn't get dressed to look presentable and barely even got out of bed some days, at least she actually ate dinner with the Lupins now. However, she reckoned that that night she would be up in her room again as the others would be eating with them and just thinking of being at the same table as Potter made her stomach churn unpleasantly.
Fortunately Hope had mentioned that if Sherry wanted to, they could have a girls night out (in the garden) but it sounded more appealing than being stuck in a room with so much testosterone. Lyall scoffed at the reason but Hope had just winked at him and cupping Sherry's cheek, giving it a pat and then walking off.
Remus joked about him not wanting Sherry around either which the blonde in question then retorted with "Strong words coming from the guy who gave me obnoxious affection on the porch last night." And Remus had scoffed again, moving his chess piece on the board in front of him and Sherry.
She won, as always. Though her celebration reminded her too much of the blissful evening before her downfall the next day. Potter coming to live in the house for a couple weeks of Summer would be hard, she knew that, but the knowledge she had the morning of the day he would arrive made the anticipation so much worse.
The doorbell rang after Sherry had finished her afternoon glass of water and since Remus was upstairs cleaning his room and the person at the door would not stop ringing it, Sherry was forced to go and open it up even though she knew who was behind the door. On her way over to it, she prayed that it would be Sirius or Peter instead of her sworn enemy.
But lo and behold, he stood there with a grin as wide as anything but when his eyes focused on the fact that this person was not 6 ft tall, a boy and didn't have brown hair, his smile fell and his eyes widened. Sirius and Peter behind him went silent as she stared at them all emotionless before shutting the door on them again, leaving them to stare at the wood panelled front door.
