THE FLYING HORSE DIDN'T LIKE ME. As Blackjack flew around Long Island, trying to keep up with the van, I sat in the back, sliding off slowly with his pitch-black tail whipping me in the back as a reminder.
My hair had no texture. The resemblance of my contorted nerves showing on the outside as my eyes burned, most likely changing to a sour apple green.
About thirty seconds ago I had wrapped my arms across Percy's torso, ignoring the way his whole chest and stomach would erupt with laughter after hearing one of my ridiculous French proverbs.
"I am going to die." My words were muffled by Percy's shoulder as I had shoved my head into the crook of his neck precisely twenty seconds ago.
All knowledge of common sense evaporates when you're two thousand feet in the air. Percy still hasn't said anything against it, though.
My whole stomach jolted. I turned my head slightly, my hair poking my eyes and still, I couldn't seem to breathe. Blackjack was diving towards the Chrysler building with his legs tucked and loud neighs coming from his mouth.
Most likely an: 'Can we get rid of the girl? She's making me nervous.'
It must've been along those lines because Percy ( being bilingual, in English and horse ), glanced back at me with his eyebrows furrowed.
"This is crazy!" My eyes were watering. After multiple attempts to get those words out without them being in a foreign language Percy's eyes glinted.
"All the best ideas are, bombshell." Against all forces of nature, I laughed. Annabeth had told me he was bad at nicknames, but that one pained me. Oh, crap. Annabeth.
"Whatever, Barnacle boy."
He went silent as we landed on top of the Chrysler building. I momentarily opened my eyes to see him stifling a laugh, a laugh so hard he looked in pain. As I wiped the fresh tears out of my eyes I bit my lip.
"What?" I said, self-conscious.
Percy's cheeks were bright pink from the frost outside biting his skin. His hair looked newly windswept and his sea-green eyes were sparkling with a newfound interest he supposedly got from looking at me.
"Your hair," he sounded like he was gulping back the words, trying not to offend me. "I didn't know Aphrodite's blessing didn't work in the air?"
