( the junkyard where broken hearts lay )
PERCY JACKSON'S FACE WAS AFLAME; burning and burning forsooth. It looked like he would never return to his natural, warm complexion. Nicoletta felt her stomach flutter in comparison with one look at the boy whose eyes seemed to be glued to the ground.
She tried to speak up, to say something at least, but the words caught in her throat and she cringed. Her mother's words ringing with excitement in her ears, to give him a try, and she wanted to—she still does but with each clutch of her cardigans' sleeves and a chill on the back of her neck, something told her not to.
She was never reckless, yet she has a feeling that had to change. Soon.
It was a couple of minutes that she stood with the others in the junkyard, awaiting Percy's arrival. Each one of her new friends began to question her, the answer displeasing Zoe greatly while Bianca's face scrunched, Thalia just slapped her knee in amusement and Grover choked on his taco.
Percy stood from a funnel of red smoke, refusing to meet anyone's eyes, especially Nicoletta's. She presumed it had something to do with her mother and her stomach sank in embarrassment, practically throwing the idea of being reckless away without a second thought.
"What did Aphrodite want with you?" Bianca asked at once, giving the stuttering boy a once over.
It wasn't until then did he look up, face still red while he licked his parted lips and shuffled his feet. "Oh, well, you know," Percy stared at Nicoletta, counting the freckles on her face like the stars in the sky. "Said some things. Then other things amongst those things and stuff."
Nicoletta was sure her mother said something. "Anything important, Percy?" Her palms were turning pink as she clasped them under her chin, sitting on a piece of lopsided metal.
"Uhhh," He ran a hand through his jet black hair, trying to pull the thought from his brain. "She said to be careful in her husband's junkyard. She said not to pick anything up."
Zoe narrowed her eyes. "The goddess of love would not make a special trip to tell thee that. Be careful, Percy. Aphrodite has led many heroes astray."
"Oh, sure." Nicoletta scoffed, amazed that she didn't realize Zoe would take any chance to dig at her mom.
"No, For once I agree with Zoe," Thalia shrugged. "You can't trust Aphrodite."
Nicoletta stood up and dusted herself off, after just meeting her mother for the first time in fourteen years she was feeling very defensive. "Funny you'd say that, Thalia." Referring to the obvious tension in her face whenever Luke's name was brought up.
