PERCY JACKSON HAD AN TINY SAVIOR COMPLEX. It was stitched in the storms and Sunday morning mist, wrapping over him like a blanket, unapologetically suffocating him.
Poison laced in bite marks all over his arms, running in his veins, there was nothing he could do to change it, and he didn't want to change it.
They had just reached a room full of waterfalls, the dark waters falling down into a pit, about the size of the drop in Percy's stomach.
Briares slumped against a wall, distaste written all over his face as he scooped up handfuls of water and splashed his face with it. "This pit goes straight to Tartarus," in the corner of his eye he saw Nicoletta look up, lips ghostly white. "I should jump in and save you the trouble."
"Don't talk that way," Annabeth frowned. "You can come back to camp with us. You can help us prepare. You know more about fighting Titans than anybody."
"I have nothing to offer. I have lost everything."
Something bubbled from the back of Nicoletta's throat, not a scoff, something lighter. "You wouldn't be the first."
Percy still didn't know the extent of what she was going through in the months of isolation, but he did know her ( at least he liked to think he did ) and she never really seemed open to change. She would bury dead corpses, rotted from the inside out, but keep maps inked into her skin for safekeeping.
"Don't you have your brothers?" Tyson pushed forward, refusing to give up. "They must still stand as tall as mountains! We can take you to them."
With the water already dripping down his molted face, he looked even sadder. His grieving face. "They all faded."
Gods, it was becoming harder and harder for Percy to pity himself with this guy around.
"What exactly do you mean by they faded? I thought monsters and Gods were immortal."
"Percy," Grover voiced weakly. "even immortality has limits. Sometimes... sometimes monsters get forgotten and they lose their will to stay immortal."
Briares swallowed and said, "I must go."
Throwing smoke into the dark sky Percy breathed an inaudible sigh.
