"WELL, WELL, WELL," Hephaestus boomed. "What have we here?"
Nicoletta's heart soared with anxiety, her eyes immediately made contact with the floor. She found safety in the pebble touching the tip of her shoe, so she began to kick it instead of looking at the slightly terrifying God that was Hephaestus.
"Um, well, we- I- we're—"
"Well? Spit it out!" Hephaestus continued tinkering in his oil-doused jumpsuit. The oil seemed to seep onto his hands, grease on his large knuckles, glistening the black grime like he had washed his hands with cinders decorating the bricks of any fireplace.
"Well, sir, we are looking for Daedalus. We thought—" Annabeth began before she got cut off.
"Daedalus? Pfft—" Hephaestus let out a choked laugh. "Now I didn't make you, did I?" His eyes trailed over Nicoletta's awkward stance.
Annabeth puckered her brow. "No . . . Sir."
Hephaestus sported a frown but nodded his head to himself like he was pleased anyway. "Good. Shoddy workmanship."
Nicoletta knew that Hephaestus already didn't like her because she was one of Aphrodite's many children. His glare was like getting sliced across the cheek with a sword, blood dripping down your face, making the injury look more gruesome than it actually is.
Percy, who was already wearing a spine-chilling stare bent his knee as if he was going to death march towards Hephaestus to defend Nicoletta, but thought against it when his knees buckled. He decided on sticking with a scoff. "Hey!"
"Hey, what?" He turned his attention back to the pile of junk metal. "You dare to seek out that old scoundrel? Humph. You're just wasting your time."
Annabeth looked slightly deflated. Connecting her hands behind her back she shifted her weight, lost in her own brain.
"In fact, not only are you wasting your time, you lot have no business pursuing a man like him," Hephaestus finally put down a piece of a metal wing, turning to fully face all of them, letting his squinted eyes travel to each one of them. The movement was so slow, that Nicoletta felt like bugs were crawling up her legs and arms, causing her to fidget under the god's gaze. "Four Half-bloods, a Satyr, and a Cyclops." He stopped at Tyson, giving him his full attention. "I sense you have something to tell me, Cyclops."
