Everything around me stops. My heart hammers in my chest as my eyes fix upon the figure in front of me. Dark hair falls into his even darker eyes which rest upon my face. Sherlocks hand tightens around mine and he pulls me further behind him, his body shield I no mine from the males view.
"Brother?" I mumble, my mind swarmed with millions of questions, each one on the tip of my tongue as I stumble for words. My shoulders tense, my breath catching within my throat just as the man in front of me steps backwards, his head tilting lightly to the side.
A small chuckle tears from deep within his throat, his head falling backwards as I look to my left and find Sherlock frowning down at me. Shrugging my shoulders, I turn back the to the man whose now staring at me, his eyes locked upon mine. "Well technically brother in law." My heart stops as the world around me freezes. Every bone in my body becomes heavy with confusion and I blink rapidly a few times, my face frozen in its place.
"You're married?" Stephen blurts out from the opposite side of the roof, his eyes wide and his mouth slightly ajar. Shaking my head violently, I turn to Stephen who's shoulders relax, his eyes softening again. It would seem that way but I certainly don't remember getting married. You'd remember that right? "I think you've got the wrong person." Stephen concludes before carefully stepping between me and the strange man and shielding my body from his view with his own.
"No I haven't." the man growls, his eyes clouding over as darkness invades them. The veins beneath the stormy eyes grow brighter, clearly visible even in the dim light upon the rooftop. Sharp teeth extend from within his mouth, his lips curling upwards into a devilish grin.
"Look no offence but I think I'd remember getting engaged." I rely calmly, my voice trembling ever so slightly from the fear within me. I know I can fight him, defend myself but what of Stephen and Sherlock? I can't fight and defend them at the same time. Panic begins to take over my body and my eyes rapidly search the shadows for some way out.
That's when my eyes first land upon her, a slim woman stood slightly to the left of the man. Short blond hair whips against her face, brushing lightly upon the tips of her shoulders as her glistening eyes shine upon my own. "Perhaps Freya can rejog your memory." the man suggests, turning to the woman and nodding once, neither of them saying a word.
"I'm sorry but this is going to hurt." the woman, whom I now know as Freya, steps from within the shadows and places her palm upon my head. I stumble backwards slightly, Stephen reaching to grab me only to be nicked out the way by the strange man again. A burning sensations flurries through my mind, every cell within it setting alight before the sparks pass onto the next. My eyes flutter and I fall to my knees whilst screams of pain and torment tear from deep within me.
"What are you doing to her?" Sherocks voice is fearful as his eyes rest upon my cowering figure. His hand reaches out towards me but he never moved to help, his fear of the magic around him fixing him into his place. My mind fills with memories, memories that seem so strange yet familiar. Each one brings a new flurry of pain and with it, a scream of torment.
"You're hurting her." Sherlock cries again, his eyes flickering between the man and Freya who stand there, frozen with their eyes calmly upon me.
"Are you trying to kill her? Because you're going to." Stephen shouts, pushing against the man who stands in front of him, his mind on one thing and one thing only. Protect her. My eyelids begin to slide closer, the pain within my mind too much for my body to handle. Pain shoots down my arm and into my chest and for a moment I fear I'm having a heart attack. My hands fly to my chest as I begin coughing, deep red blood staining the concrete in front of me.
"Kol enough." hisses a voice from within the doorway. My head turns to see who it is but my vision just blurs, the only thing I can make out an outline of a tall male. His hair is light and he's dressed in all black. He marches across the concrete towards the strange man, presumably Kol, who glares back at him.
"She needs to remember." Kol grunts, speeding across the roof until he's stood between the blonde man and me. My body falls to the side, shaking violently on the floor as my mind becomes overloaded with past memories of myself. Another man emerges from the shadows, his guilt-stricken face fixed upon my cowering body. His face seems so familiar, like I've seen it before. He places a careful hand upon Freya's shoulder, the whole time his eyes on my own as she stops, my body collapsing against the floor as darkness invades me. Nothing moves. No sounds can be heard. Nothing can be seen as I lay still, barely breathing. It's not until I finally gasp again that the world around me continues.
"Stephen?" I whisper, my voice barely audible as my eyes flutter open lightly. My head spins and my body aches, every fibre of my body wanting to give in to the darkness around me. Two strong arms wrap around my small frame, their breathing the only sound I can hear. As I look up, I find Stephen staring down at me, his eyes full of concern. In his eyes I am able to see my reflection, the blood smeared across my chin and dripping from the corner of my left eye. A small red mark sits in the centre of my forehead from where the burning began, almost as though Freya's palm was seared into my skin.
My eyes flutter closed against the light and the last thing I hear before the darkness swallows me whole is Stephen's gentle tone whispering "it's okay. I've got you."
