Chatter bursts out in all directions, decorations hanging from every curve of the large hall. Darkness falls outside but doesn't reach inside the building, fairy lights fighting against it and illuminating every corner of the room. Sherlock paced backward and forward across the far side of the room, phone presses tightly to his ear.
"So how is your roommate doing?" Mycrofts voice booms out over the speaker, his hushed tone calming his brother slightly as Sherlock stops pacing, pausing in his place. A deep exhale comes from deep within Sherlock who glances behind him towards where I stand, my eyes fixed on John and Mary as they begin to make their way onto the dance floor.
Without him noticing, a small smile forms on Sherlock's pale complexion, his eyes closing as he sighs in delight. "She's okay why?" Sherlock answers over the phone, his brothers silence nerving him slightly.
"So there's nothing to tell me?" Mycroft asks again, his curiosity evident in his voice even over the speaker. Sherlock can just imagine him sat at his desk, foot tapping lightly on the floor as his eyes fix on the large screen in front of him, which in Sherlocks mind most likely has my history in it. Knowing Mycroft he's done a full background check on me and when he's not found anything panicked. Sherlock sighs loudly but doesn't say anything else. Of course, Mycroft instantly understands this though. "I warned you Sherlock, don't get attached." he demands again, Sherlock frowning as his brows draw tightly together and form a crease at the top of his nose.
"I'm not." hisses Sherlock loudly over the phone, pulling it away from his ear and ignoring Mycroft's arguing tone on the other end before he presses the end call button.
"Sherlock hurry up! John and Mary's dance is starting." I shout, rushing to his side and grabbing his arm before leaving my own through it. Dragging him over towards the edge of the dance floor, I bounce enthusiastically, smiling widely as I watch Mary and John glide gracefully over the dance floor, their eyes locked upon each other. "They're so beautiful." I whisper lightly, my shoulders relaxing as I lean against Sherlocks sturdy frame. His eyes glance down towards me, softening upon my pale face and he laughs lightly to himself.
"Yes. Yes they are." he agrees without taking his eyes off me, the smile he had before returning to his face. My eyes land upon a waiter who stands the other side of Sherlock and I am suddenly distracted from the pair. Unlacing my arm from Sherlocks, I head over towards where the waiter is but come to a sudden halt when a tall figure emerges in front of me.
"May I have this dance?" he asks, reaching his hand outward as I look down at it. The mans dark brown hair falls lightly into his eyes which I recognize from the other week. It's the man from the rooftop, the one who saved me from almost dying. Glancing around, I shrug my shoulders before taking his hand as he leads me out into the dance floor which is now filled with others.
"You know I can't remember you right?" I mumble as he pulls me tightly to his body, placing this hand lightly on my waist, careful not to touch my skin as he smiles down at me, simply nodding. My eyes flutter downward, a small light chuckle coming from me. "So why are you here?" I ask him, looking into his deep eyes which land upon mine at the same time.
"I promised to wait for you so that's what I'll do." he explains, his voice remaining calm the whole time, a thick accent lacing around his voice. A small smile creeps onto my face, my cheeks becoming a light shade of pink. Even though I don't know this man, he feels safe, almost like in another life he was my home.
"Even if it takes forever?"
"Even then." the man whispers, removing his hand from my hip and spinning me around. The world around me blurs as he lets go of my fingertips and sends me spinning across the floor. Finally, my body collides with another, my hands curling around theirs as they pull me tightly towards them.
