Megumi sheepishly adjusted the sleeve of her fluffy sweater as she and Tohru bid Shigure, Yuki, and Kyo off at the front door. The time had finally come for the three to depart for the main estate, and celebrate New Year's with the rest of the zodiac.
While Megumi's stomach normally did somersaults each year when it was time for three boys to leave for the main estate, this year didn't seem too bad. She could feel a few baby butterflies that barely knew how to use their wings. Every once in a while, they would flutter in the depths of her stomach, but they were weak, flimsy flutters.
Her heart rate was normal. A rhythmic and lulling beat soothing her nerves as her heart pumped blood throughout her body like a well-oiled machine. Her head didn't pound, nor did her stomach feel like it was going to puke itself out at any moment. In fact, she felt great, as odd as it may sound.
A sort of euphoria had settled over her as the sun set behind fluffy clouds. A feeling one would feel the moment waves clashed against sandy beaches. Or when fireworks erupted into brilliant shades of reds and blues in the sky, lighting the world up with warmth and joy. Everything simply felt right, Megumi had thought, maybe even a little too right.
The blonde gently brushed her bangs away from her forehead. "Be care-careful of crowds," Megumi warned, "Make s-sure to stay warm and hydrated as-as well."
A warm glow had settled over the trio as they bundled up in their coat and tied their shoes, supplying the small group with little light as the sun set behind cotton candy skies.
Shigure's face was painted in orange when he looked up. "We'll be fine. It's New Year's Eve, so no one's out and about." He said, adjusting his traditional kimono.
"Make sure to lock the doors when we leave." Yuki reminded, zipping his blue coat up as he mentally preparing for the chill air that was waiting impatiently for them outside the door.
Tohru grinned, "Right! We'll see you when you come back!"
Megumi relaxed and allowed for her arms to fall back to her sides, a single baby butterfly flapping its blue wings ever so gently in her stomach. "Mhm, th-three days a-and count-counting!"
"Okay, see you later!" Shigure sang, bidding goodbye as he stepped out the door. Yuki and Kyo following behind like baby ducks.
A small breeze blew into the foyer before Yuki gently slide the paper door shut. Both girls were blind to the way his hand stuttered and hesitated at the handle. With the two girls now officially alone, there was an awkward moment of silence. Neither moved an inch, both frozen in time as they stared wordlessly at the shut door before them.
