All things considered, the night ended as best as it could've. Megumi had been scandalized when she watched Ayame once more transform from the chill spring brought, face red as he slithered under Tohru's clothes for warmth. Tohru had brushed it off shakily, her face pink from embarrassment, explaining that it was necessary or Ayame would freeze. Megumi hadn't the heart to tell her he was taking advantage of the situation. She simply braced for impact once they returned home with the sun setting and their stomachs full.

It was good that she had thought ahead, for Yuki's reaction to what his brother did was explosive. It was rare for Yuki to raise his voice, deeming it immoral in most cases, but Megumi sat and listened to him yell at his brother for twenty minutes before finally pulling him away from the stunned man. Yuki's face was red with anger, eyebrows permanently furrowed, and hair a mess from the absurd amount of times he ran his hand through it in search of relief. It was a struggle to separate the two, but with some hard work, Megumi managed and had the boy sitting next to her like a protective dog for the rest of the night. She was forced to pretend she couldn't feel the heat radiating off him as he glowered at Ayame for the entire night.

Shigure had decided for everyone that it was best to go to sleep early, and after helping set up a bed for Ayame, Megumi tucked herself into bed. She had fallen asleep rather easily, compared to recent nights at least, and enjoyed her dreamless sleep till about mid-morning. At first, it was because she was hot. Sweat stuck uncomfortably on her body, but she couldn't find relief no matter how she lay or what parts of the bed she rested on. Then, the birds singing kept her up, listening to the robins as they chirped their songs as the sun rose above the horizon. Deciding this was the earth's way of waking her up, she gave up on sleep and began to wake up, creeping one eye open before slamming it shut from the sun's beams burning her.

Her body felt uncomfortably heavy as she awoke, like a strong weight was bearing on her and pulling her down into the dark earth. It leeched onto her no matter how hard she fought to deny the pull, a muffled groan of discontent escaping her dry mouth. She slapped a hand to her damp skin, drowsily pushing hair away from her face as she fought for more sleep, eyelids fluttering drunkenly.

Megumi's heart skipped a beat as a faint breath blew gently against her cheek, her heartbeat skyrocketing from zero to one hundred in seconds as her eyelids flew open in a rush. The blonde fought to sit up, the unsettling weight holding her down, resisting the swift movement until she finally reached down and attempted to pry it off her. Her sticky hands found warm skin that was smoother than anything she had ever touched before. If it weren't so warm and pliable, she could have mistaken it for marble. After getting a good grip on what she believed to be an arm, she launched it off her body–finally able to breathe normally and sit up how she pleased.

A scream was caught in her throat as she looked at the perpetrator, his long white hair sprawled over his body like a second blanket. His long white eyelashes fluttered dreamily on his cheeks as he dreamed wistfully, chest rising and falling smoothly as he was ignorant of the scare he had delivered to the poor blonde. Quickly, Megumi wretched her other arm out of his loving embrace.
