Another short chapter just to make up for the short one this morning😌👍

"What the bloody hell are you doing here?" He looks to Kendric in disgust. I step forward, analyzing his odd state. As I do so, I smell a sudden stench of strong liquor.

"Wilhelm, are you drunk?" I grow alarmed.

"Back to Wilhelm now are we?" He slurs stepping towards me. I am reminded that I called him Wilkes out of pure shock.

"What are you doing here?" I hoist him up as he begins using my frame to keep from falling.

"What are you doing? Hmm?" He asks.

"What do you mean?"

"With him."

"Wilhelm I haven't seen you in 3 months you can't expect me to be alone forever. I don't know what you want from me."

"Yes you do... It's what I've always wanted from you." He grins and my face grows hot.

"Stop. Kendric, you can wait in the other room, I'll handle this." He nods his head, unsure, but follows my order anyway.

Something Wilhelm would never do.

I step outside of my house pushing Wilhelm out of the door way. The breeze from the night blows through my hair and I help him towards the bench on the porch.

"Come on. Sit down."

"Why are you suddenly being nice to me?"

"Because you won't remember any of this in the morning." I sigh, not looking at him.

"Then why won't you look at me?"

"Because I will remember this."

"So?" He asks as I stare out on to the road in front of us.

"So, looking at you hurts too much. I just can't do it."

"Why does it hurt?"

"Because I loved you and you broke me."

"I didn't mean to."

"You still did. You fucked it all up."

"I love you."

"Don't."

"I do though, Lenora..." He exhales, exhausted from the alcohol. "I love you so much. It's unimaginable." He murmurs laying his head on my shoulder.

"No. You don't." I stand. "I'll call you a cab. You shouldn't drive like this."

"Wait—" He grabs my wrist, standing. "Please look at me." He twists me around to face him, but I look to the ground. "Lenora, please." His voice is begging. He pulls my face up with both of his hands. I feel my cheeks mushed between his palms and I finally look into his eyes. His eyebrows are pinched together as he searches for something in my eyes.

"It's been months, Wilhelm. Why are you acting like this? You need to stop..." I speak lowly.

"Because I love you... And I think you love me too."

"I don't."

"You're lying. I see it in your eyes."

"You're drunk. You don't know what you see."

"What are you doing with him when you're still in love with me?" He questions.

"I'm not in love with you. I never was."

"That's not what you told me."

"I told you a theory that I had created prior to seeing you and another woman naked together in your bed. That you sleep in every night." My eyes begin watering. "In your home, Wilkes. You hurt me." My voice is full of emotional cracks and tears. "I can't just let that go. I'm not coming back to you." I pull his hands free from my face and turn away.

"Please. Don't do this."

"Why-Why do you do this?! Why do you keep coming back? You're ripping open old wounds. I should have healed by now! I should be done with you! Please, Wilhelm! Put me out of my misery and just go! Leave me alone. Let me be. I can't do this anymore." I didn't even realize tears had been falling when they were. I hurry to wipe them away. His face softens and a single tear rolls down his cheek. If he wasn't sober before, he definitely is now.

"Okay. I truly am sorry for everything, Nora. I did love you. I still do. But if what it takes for you to be happy is having me eliminated from your life then so be it..." He steps forward, pulling my head towards him. He kisses me on the forehead before muttering the word, "Goodbye." Wilhelm then turns around, leaving me on my porch speechless. I stand for a moment with thoughts flying through my brain.

"Wilkes?" I call out hysterically, misery sitting in my throat, damaging every word that dares pass. I run up to him as he stops walking down his path and turns to look at me. I abruptly halt in front of him, jumping into his arms. He holds me up by my thighs as I press my lips softly against his. He pulls me in tighter, not wanting to let go. Our lips work together as wonderfully as I remembered. I had forgotten how much I missed this. Finally, I pull away and press my forehead to his, keeping my eyes closed. I bask in our moment knowing it has to come to an end.

"Just one last time. Goodbye, Wilkes." I slide down out of his arms and walk back to my home. Before closing the door, I take one last look at Wilhelm. He finally turns around and begins walking down the street and I realize he never drove here in the first place. Removing him from my mind, I search for Kendric.  He is sitting on the living room sofa, patiently waiting.

"Hey... how was everything—"

"Great." I pull him up by his wrist and drag him to my room. After entering, I flip him around and push him down onto the bed, allowing him to watch me strip. I climb on top of him.

The night is long.

I think of Wilkes the entire time.
