Maura

I woke up in someone's arms.

Adrien's arms.

I opened my eyes and found him sleeping peacefully, his arm tight around me as if keeping me safe. I lifted my head off his chest, causing him to stir.

"Sleep Maura, we don't need to go anywhere today." He muttered, his voice deep and thick from sleep.

I listend and put my head back down. I remembered why I was here. Riley and his sicko friends. I felt fine now, but what could have been had shaken me up bad.

I recalled what Adrien told me about Nate, and my heart hurt for him. I only wish that I had the chance to talk to him, laugh with him with Adrien.

I closed my eyes and willed sleep to return when a gentle knock sounded at the door. Adrien grumbled and sat up before telling them to come in.

His mum slowly eased the door open, a tray of food in her hand. Adrien stilled beneath me.

His mum walked over to the desk and put the food down on the table before sitting on the edge of the bed. I couldn't be more thankful for being fully clothed.

"How are you?" She asked.

"I'm feeling better, thanks to Adrien." I admitted.

Adrien slid from the bed. "I'm going to have a shower." He muttered awkwardly.

I sat up completely and watched as he walked away. I was thankful to have some alone time with his mum.

"Look, Maura, i'm afraid we may not have gotten off on the right foot." Mrs. Rayne admitted.

"it's fine." I lied.

"I just wanted to say that i am so glad that my son is someone that you can feel safe around in a bad time." Her eyes slid to the door Adrien had slipped through.

"He's a good person." I didn't finish there.

"So I don't understand how you think it's ok that your own son feels the need to sneak into his own home just to get inside." I snarled. I knew it wasn't appropriate behaviour, but I couldn't stand the way his parents treated him.

Mrs, Rayne looked at me in shock, at my words and my tone.

"It isn't my place to talk to you about this, but talk to your son. Because you'll find that while he has been a good son, you haven't been a good mother. I'll leave now, because I don't think you'll want me here now." I moved to get off the bed, but Mrs. Rayne only put out a hand in a command to tell me to stop.

"Stay. Adrien is lucky to have you." She said quietly, yet her eyes were distant.

Mrs. Rayne stood and left the room without another word. I waited another five in silence before Adrien walked back in, hair wet from his shower.

I looked at his hands and found them red and scratched. "What's that from?" I asked.

Adrien tracked my line of sight and tensed. He closed the door behind him before walking to the foot of the bed. His adam's apple bobbed as he swallowed. "I visited Riley last night." He said, jaw clenched, his gaze not meeting my own.
