Maura
"ADRIEN." I screamed, watching as he swerved into the path of the incoming truck.
The words that were a second from emptying from his mouth was the furthest thing on my mind.
Adrien looked back towards the road, eyes widening as he looked in front.
It all felt like it was happening in slow motion as Adrien swerved again, the trucks horn blaring in our ears.
I breathed a sigh of relief that was very short lived as the truck passed by us, unscratched.
It was only a second later when I relaised Adrien and swerved too far, and that was now a river coming towards us as Adrien accidentally drove off the edge of the bridge at top speed.
I felt the impact before I saw it happening. Every bone in my body jutted forward as we landed in the water.
We bobbed for a second. Adrien used that second to unbuckle me first. Then water began to fill the front of the car, rising fast.
My feet were soaked, then my calves. Adrien was trying to open my door, muttering curses and my name over and over, his breath sharp and fast.
I pushed him off and began to unbuckle him, he wasn't concerned for himself as he should be. The buckle was nearly submerged by the time I finally got it undone.
The doors, they wouldn't open. Adrien pushed against them with all his might.
My head was throbbing, my body was cold. i reached over into the back, just as submerged as the front, and grabbed a high heel I had continued to forget to bring into my house.
It would never back it home, nor would I.
The water was up to my stomach.
I passed the heel to Adrien and he began to hit the windows to the side of him.
Again, again. Nothing.
I turned and tried to open my door, I knew it was useless, but I had to do something.
The water was at our chests.
Adrien used every muscle in his body. I used my arms to a near breaking point, trying to push open the door.
The water was at our throats.
"Adrien, look at me." For I knew, we were stuck.
Adrien halted his assaults at the glass and looked at me, eyes panicked and wild.
"I love you." I breathed, heart racing.
Adrien placed both hands on either side of my face, his own full of love, sadness and stress. "No Maura, this isn't goodbye, don't say that." He kissed my forehead before turning around and hitting the glass again.
We spent the next minutes, at least I felt like it was minutes, it could have been mere seconds, hitting the glass, trying to push open the doors, with no luck.
I could hardly hear the horns blaring above us as the water covered my ears.
I pushed from my seat and sucked in one deep breath as the last of the air in the car as it completely submerged.
