Chapter 9

Ben's summer was actually better than he expected. Him and Otis made up. Ben hung out with Sean for most of the summer and became bestfriends. Rahim was still upset about Eric and didn't want to really talk to Ben.

And some stuff happened that summer that Ben never thought would ever happen.

Ben also got his own car. His uncle gave it to him as a present but Ben didn't get why because it wasn't his birthday or anything. But who was he to complain, right?

Ben ran down the stairs jumping off the bottom step but losing his balance and face planting the floor.

He jumped back up onto his feet "I'm okay" he walked out to where he seen Otis just putting his phone away and drinking the orange juice from the carton.

"You still have that mustache? Anyone ever told you its creepy?" Ben asked as he approached his brother "hey! This took all summer to grow. And its not creepy. Plus you have a bit of a beard going on there" Otis pointed to his brothers face. Ben felt around his jaw and that checking for any hairs "I shaved this morning, asshole. Its completely clear".

"Has Maeve got back to you about that message?" Ben asked his brother who just shook his head taking another sip from the carton. "Nope. And I don't care because I've moved on" Ben nodded "sure you have. I've got to go. I'm picking Sean up so I'll see you later." Before Ben could let his brother respond he was already gone.

Ben and Sean got to the school already seeing a camera crew "why is there a camera crew at our school?" Sean asked "Maybe we are famous?" Ben suggested.

As Ben and Sean got out of the car they were getting stares off other students. "Why are people staring?" Ben shrugged "I mean, we both kind of changed over the summer and I got a car so maybe thats could be a reason?" he suggested again.

"Hi, Ben" Ben heard Amy greet as he walked past. He rolled his eyes "Come on, let's go. Before she starts to chase me" Sean laughed as him and Ben continued into the school.

Ben and Sean obviously sat together at the assembly just behind the Untouchables. Everyone heard music start to play and a woman came out dancing.

Ben and Sean looked at eachother confused but a smile on their faces.

"Good Morning, Moordale! How is everyone feeling today?" The woman asked with the mic in hand.

"Really good!"

"I am your new head teacher, Mrs. Haddon, but you can call me hope." Hope walked over to the edge of the stage and sitting down. "I like her already" Ben stated. "The first thing you need to know about me is that i used to be sitting where you are now. Literally. Yeah, I went to Moordale too."

"I love her lipstick. Its so bold" Ben and Sean heard Ruby Matthew's say in front of them. "You know your back once you hear Ruby start speaking" Ben said to Sean who nodded. Ruby obviously heard and turned around in her chair giving the boy a glare. Ben just smirked and sent her a wink. Ruby tried to hide her smile by rolling her eyes and turning around back in her seat.

"I've achieved alot since then. Two degrees, teaching positions at some of the country's top institutions, and by 28 I became the youngest headteacher in the UK. But the years I spent in this building were the best of my life. This school not only encouraged me to excel academically, but it truly allowed me to find my purpose. Which is why it has been so hurtful to read some of the horrible things written about Moordale in the press. I don't know what went wrong or how we ended up here, but I do know it changes today." Everyone started to clap and Ben wiped a fake tear from his eye "this is so heart warming" he said as he put a hand over his heart.
