Ben held the phone to his ear again as he waited desperately for the person on the other end to pick up. He let out a frustrated huff when the person declined the call again.
This wasn't the first time Ben tried contacting Ruby. He had went to her house but her mother refused to let him in which Ben tried to protest about but unfortunately for him her mother wasn't backing down.
Ruby's mother didn't know what was wrong with her daughter, all she knew was Ruby didn't want to see Ben and she could only only deliver that request. She felt bad for the boy after seeing him going to her house everyday for the past week but wasn't getting any kind of information.
Ben didn't know why Ruby was ignoring him and he tried going over in his head to think if he had doing anything wrong but nothing came to his mind.
There was a knock on his door as he flipped down on his stomach onto his bed "come in" his voice was muffled by his blankets but was still clear and loud enough for the other person on the other side of the door.
The door opened revealing a well dressed Jean Milburn "hi darling, how are you feeling?" Ben turned around to face his mother "how am I supposed to feel. My girlfriend has been ignoring me for the past week and I've done literally everything to try see what the problem is or if I've done anything to hurt her but nothing is coming to mind. I'm miserable" he flopped back down in the bed.
Jean sat down on the boys bed as she looked around the room "what was the last thing yous did together?" Ben thought back to what they had done last together. "We just watched a movie in bed. She had went home early cause she felt sick and since then she hasn't spoke to me at all" Jean hummed.
"Maybe you just give her some time to herself and let her come to you when she's ready. Be patient" Ben sighed and nodded "yeah, your right. I'll just give her some time. Thanks mum" Jean smiled back at her son in return.

"So, still no word?" Jackson asked as him, Ben, and Adam sat at a table together at some diner "nope. My mum said to just give her some time so I guess that's just what I'm gonna do" he shrugged.
If Ben was to be honest, being out with Adam and Jackson was weird. Well, it would look weird to others. Ben didn't feel weird with the two boys it's just it would be weird to others around them because it's an odd trio.
"Yeah, maybe giving her some space is the best thing. You don't want to pressure her into anything, you know?" Ben nodded at Adams words "yeah" the three talked talked some more before Jackson brought up about jobs.
"I can't see where I will be going as a career. We all knew swimming was my thing but when you're put under so much pressure you fall out of love" Adam and Ben hummed understanding the Marchetti boy.
"I was thinking like...a dog doctor, because I love dogs" Adam piped up "you mean a vet?" Adam blanked but then nodded right after "yeah, that" Ben smiled at Adam liking his idea.
"What about you, Ben?" Ben looked between his two friends as his mouth opened and closed. He had a thought of a career but he didn't think many people would be happy about it plus it would seem he would be pulling it out of the air since he had never mentioned this thing before.
"Uh, I mean... I've done some thinking on a few things" Jackson urged on for the boy to spill which made Ben get more nervous by the second.
"Uh, I was thinking of joking the army..." Jackson looked at Adam as the both then looked at Ben "are you kidding? Surely you are just kidding" Jackson laughed in hopes his friend was just messing around with them.
"Uh no, actually, I'm being serious. I was thinking about moving to America and joining the American army" Jackson's mouth fell open as slight fear took over in Adams eyes.
"What about Ruby? And why the American army. England have an Army" Adam spoke up which Jackson gave the boy a look "Adam!" Adam muttered a quick sorry as the two looked back at Ben.
"I don't know what to tell Ruby. It's been on my mind for a bit of time now and I don't how to speak to her about it" he shrugged completely lost in how he could tell his girlfriend.
"I-I just don't want to upset her" Jackson scoffed a laugh "of course she'd be upset, her boyfriend is looking to fly to a country nearly 9 hours away and join the army" Ben let out a sigh.
"What happens if you go over there and you get hurt? Do you know the percentage of people who get hurt going over there to join the army? At least 90%." Ben regretted even saying anything now.
There was no way Jackson and Adam were going to give in and support his decision.
"Okay so what if I joined the English Army. I'm still here" Adam looked between the two friends as they spoke to one another. "Look, I know you guys don't like this but I wanna serve my country a-and I'd be fine. Please, just be my friends and at least pretend to support my decision" Jackson looked over at Adam who gave him a shrug.
"We're just worried that's all" Ben smiled softly at his two friends interest in his care for him. "I know".
The three friends hung out at the diner a little longer before they decide to just walk around the town before coming across an arcade to which made the boys giddy and act like little kids as they went in and played all sorts of games with and against each other.

Ben walked through his door with a smile on his face. He had a good day with his friends minus the whole army talk but it was nice to know that they were willing to pretend to support him. They might eventually actually support his decision for real as time goes on.
Ben seen his mother on the couch with Joy in her arms asleep as Jean watched the TV whilst rocking her daughter in her arms.
"Hi, mum" Jean looked over her shoulder "oh, hi, darling. Did you have a good day?" She asked quietly, careful not to wake up the sleeping baby. "Uh, yeah it was good. Still no word from Ruby though" he frowned which didn't go unnoticed by his mother.
"Well, I think you should probably just head up stairs. She might be ready to talk soon" Ben sighed and just nodded "yeah, probably" Ben walked up the stairs and down the hall to his room.
He opened the door and walked in his movements stopping when he seen the one girl he had been worried about all week. Ben closed his door and approached his girlfriend "Ruby-" he started but stopped as he took in the girls features.
Her eyes were raw red and her nose was a bright pink. She wore no makeup and her hair was just in a messy bun. Her clothes weren't what she would usually go for but she seemed to be comfortable in sweatpants and matching hoodie.
"Your mum let me in" her voice was horse like she had been crying for days on end. "What's wrong? Did something happen? Did someone hurt you?" He asked worriedly approached his girlfriend coming chest to chest with the girl.
Ruby looked into her boyfriends eyes as her lip began to tremble again "I...I'm pregnant and I'm keeping it" she sobbed "I'm so sorry, Ben" Ben pulled the girl in closer to his chest as he rubbed up and down her back to her head quietly shushing her and whispering comforting words into her ear.
Ruby sobbed harder into the boys chest as she repeated her words of sorry. Ben was in complete shock, he honestly didn't know what to say or how to handle a situation. Obviously he was a little upset that Ruby hadn't went to him about keeping the baby but it was her body so the decision was basically in her hands.
It didn't mean Ben was going to run away from the girl because of this. No, he was going to help her through it no matter what.
