Two other kids were put at our table. They looked disgusted with the fact that they had to sit with us. It seemed they hated Kevin a lot.
Kevin glared down at a piece of paper that had been thrown at him. He un-crumbled the ball and sighed, wadding it back up and throwing it at the trashcan. I was surprised when the ball actually landed in the trashcan.
Mrs. Cade took her sweet precious time putting people in seats. The two other kids at the table were passing notes and snickering, occasionally looking up at Kevin. Kevin ignored them and doodled randomly on the inside of his binder.
I watched him draw random squares and triangles. He looked up and raised an eyebrow at me. "What do you want?" he asked. I realized I was leaning on the table in order to look at his drawings. I slid back into my seat and shrugged. "How do you know Alex?"
"I-I'm Jeremy's stepsister," I whispered. Kevin nodded slightly.
"You actually wanna hang out with us?" he asked. I shrugged. He laughed softly. "Prepare to get made fun of left and right. Possibly beat up one day. I doubt Jer would let you get beat up though..." Kevin rambled. I nodded slightly.
"Okay! What's number one?" Mrs Cade asked, pointing up at the board. "Lendzie!"
I shrugged. She stared at me until I forced out an, "I don't know."
"Well, you better be writing this down. Kevin!" she called.
"Like I fucking know," Kevin said. Everyone busted out laughing. Mrs. Cade's face went red with anger. I laughed slightly.
"Pink slip!" she yelled. What the hell is a pink slip? She walked to her desk quickly and thumbed through a bucket of folders. "I picked some up this morning, hoping I wouldn't need them."
"What's your name?" she asked.
"Kevin Skaff."
"Or you could just put 'punk kid that needs to drag the blade a little too deep,'" some kid called out.
Kevin looked up. I furrowed my eyebrows. "Shut the hell up!" I said back. Why am I talking, this is a horrible idea, I'm standing up for Kevin and I just met him. That was all one thought.
"Make me!" the kid yelled. "Maybe you should drag it too."
"Suck my ass!" I said.
Mrs. Cade reached over and got two more pink slips. She handed them out to Kevin, the kid, and I and sent us all to the office.
The kid slammed me into a locker. "I like your shoes, hah, not. Who wears Vans anyway? Other than little emo bitches." He punched me in the nose. I groaned in pain, he'd slammed my head into the locker pretty hard.
"Yo, bitch!" Kevin yelled, yanking him by his collar. I fell to the ground. "If you're gonna beat someone up, go for someone your own size, man. Trying to beat up some ninety pound girl isn't gonna go well in your file."
"Yeah, you look about my size," the kid said.
"Go for me," Kevin shrugged. The kid lunged at Kevin, but Kevin dodged it. The kid tried to lunge at him a couple more times, but Kevin would dodge every time. The kid attempted a couple punches, but Kevin would dodge them. Kevin grabbed his fist and twisted it. The kid yelped in pain and backed up, grabbing his pink slip from the ground and running off.
Kevin looked over at me. He walked up and offered a hand. Reluctantly, I took it and pulled myself up. "Are you alright?" Kevin asked, looking me in the eyes.
I moved my eyes away. "Yeah," I whispered, backing into the lockers to make more space between us.
"Why are you so quiet?" Kevin asked.
